Love Hate Relationship

I have a Bergara 6mm creedmoore in an XLR Chassis. Never had to work up loads as this gun shoots Hornady Factory 108 10 shoots 1/2 MOA at 200 yds which I love.

As dumb as it may sound, I absolutely hate the white color of the chassis. The butt stock, trigger guard, action and barrel are a gray (mag is black with gray floor plate) which I'm fine with.

Trying to decide what color to re-cerakote the chassis........thinking about a light gray, dark gray and black camo pattern.

Thoughts on color combo? I do not like the solid white period!!!!

Forgot to mention: I have a new black buffer tube and folder adapter made by XLR. I also ordered a Salmon River Soultions hunter Acra & picatinny combo rail (black) that will go from mag well to end of forearm.

Just take a sponge with some Krylon to it. This is what I did to my XLR element and Howa 1500 build

Another vote for Krylon and sponges. I've done several stocks this way. After the sponge treatment I usually give it two or three coats of Matte Clear. It seems to give just a little extra protection. My T/C muzzle loader was done five or six years ago and still looks great.

I uploaded a few pics to photoshop and got to playing around with different colors, patterns, etc. and came up with a scheme that will look sharp once completed.

Appreciated the feedback y'all

I do the matte clear for a top coat as well.

To me, it's still a little shiny for my liking, so I knock it back with some 4 ought steel wool or a Scotchbrite pad.

If you don't like it, a little lacquer thinner on a rag & start over.
Or just another coat of paint. :)

I was amazed at how well the rattle can/sponge jobs hold up. Did the first one at least 8-10 years ago, 2 more since and I can't find any dings or scratches on any of them. My rifles have been hunted hard up until recently, all w/original paint job. I think the matte clearcoat is largely responsible for the durability. First paint job on .338 WM used mostly for big game during winter months when grass is dead.

The nice thing about Krylon paint jobs is they are quick and very easy and they do hold up. If you bump a stock even with ceracoat, its gonna leave a mark. With Krylon you just touch it up. I usually clean the stock with alcohol really good, then a base coat, maybe two. All depends on how well the first coat does. Then start with the sponges. Let your imagination run wild. The paint dries pretty quickly so it doesn't take days to dry then finish up with clear. I always use the matte because it kills any shine. And as no one has mentioned yet, its cheap!!!!

Got the chassis back. Added my personal touches along with a folder, 11.5 SAS Hunter Arca/Picatinny Rail combo, Atalas bipod, etc.
