Hate to air family issues but life has sure thrown me and my family a sack of lemons lately. A year or so ago the wife (kinda ex, kinda not) was having hip issues. Our Dr kept giving her pain meds but they weren't helping. In January it got so bad she couldn't walk. I ended up putting her in the hospital. They said she had pneumonia and covid along with her hip and leg issues. She stayed in the hospital 5 weeks and only on the 5th week did they address her hip and leg issue and IMO it was to late and she ended up loosing her left leg above the knee. All this time I am making two trips to Tulsa everyday. Then she went into rehab and that was local but I still was there twice a day sometimes more and this lasted for 20 days. All the time, I'm taking care of my house and hers, feeding the pets and paying the utilities ect. I also had to build a ramp to get her in and out of her house with a wheelchair. Now I take her to physical therapy three days a week to learn to walk with her new leg. Today was a trip to Tulsa for a breast examine and luckily they found no cancer. Tomorrow the heart DR for a check up on her other leg. Then therapy starts again on Monday. Lucky for her and I, we both have decent insurance. So far the out of pocket is doable and isn't going to bankrupt her or me as I've been helping with the bills on some of this. Hospital was $250,000 and her new prosthetic leg was $42,000. How anyone without insurance could possibly make it is beyond me.
Somehow I still make it to the club and get my work done there and even get to shoot a little now and then. Nothing near what I use to do but once in a while. Hunting season is about to kick off and I haven't stepped into the woods yet to check out my spots. Maybe before Oct.1st I can get there.
The last 9 months have been rough on this old man. Almost gave up a time or two but kept telling myself I had to keep going for her. Some days I just sat with my head in hands and did the best I could to get up and do what needed done. So far I just make lemonade out of the lemons.
