JIB

I now have a JIB to hook up to my fx 3. Can't wait to try it this fall. Any suggestions on the use of it would be appreciated, like do you guys turn on the decoy as soon as you start calling or do you wait awhile. The rabbit looks small to me, was thinking about trying the coon first.

Steve, First off, welcome to the board. You'll find a wealth full of information from the guys on here.
I really like my JIB. It works great on fox, not many yotes here. Don't worry about the size of the rabbit, it works. I would suggest doing some mods to protect the buttons or you WILL turn it on by mistake and have dead batteries when you go to use it. I got the deployment bag from yoters den and it works great. It protects the buttons well, plus it was well made.
Tried mine at night. But IMO it's not worth the hassle. Too much stuff to fart with for me. It did't take me long to learn that the less stuff you carry the better.
Good Luck.

I usually leave mine on the entire stand, the batteries seem to last forever. After having two coyotes charge my JIB I will never hunt with it...sure made a believer out of me!! I just slow the slower mode, I'm sure the faster mode would use up batteries faster. I always carry extra batteries for everything that runs on them run when coyote hunting.

I let mine run the entire stand. Battery life not a problem and it really helps keep the critter's attention off of you.

Recently had a javelina charge the decoy and actually grab the coon and try to run off with it. Fortunately (for the javelina), he couldn't hang on and dropped it just as I was getting on him with my AR. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One word of caution. I used to leave the cord plugged in between the decoy and FX5 on the way to/from a stand until I caught the cord and decoy on a bush and damaged the receptacle on the FX5. Will have to send it in to get a new receptacle but hate to be without it long enough to get it fixed.

Thanks guys, I am really lookin fwd now to the summer being over. I see what you mean about the on/off buttton. I turned it on accidently already just messing with it in the house. I need an edge on one place I hunt because I think there are some smart dogs there and I think I made them that way. I expect I will have hawk harrassment. I have had them dive bomb my fx without a decoy. All you guys make this my favorite place on the web.

I put a crow decoy on mine and an owl dropped in and snatched it off. It immediately knew something wasn't right and dropped it.
Next you need to get the FX3 upgraded to a FX5. You can change from one sound to another at a different volume with the push of one button with the preset buttons. It's worth every penny to me. It filled all my wishes on my FX3 wish list.
