It's been a long time.

Hello everyone, it's been a coons age since I've been on the site. For those who have never heard of me, I was a Moderator on here for a long time, joining Predator Masters somewhere around the turn of the last century! I've been addicted to hunting coyotes since a kid and at 65, still am. I just finished up what I call "coyote season", November- early February. I only shoot them when the fur is prime. Here are a few statistics:
Days Hunted: 40 (Daytime, from sun up to sunset)
Average number of stands called per day: 12
Miles walked: 168
Coyotes killed: 100

So that averages out to 2.5 coyotes per day and a coyote every 4.8 stands.
I skin the coyotes as soon as I shoot them. Up here in Montana, they freeze pretty darn fast. The piece of tubing on the Can-Am is my homemade skinning rack. It works great and as you can see, has been bent from pulling tough hides off of coyotes.

If 170 miles is in the neighborhood, then welcome back neighbor. You guy get a huge blizzard today? It was blowing 50 to 60 here this morning and snowing so hard you couldn't see 100 yards. When it quit blowing this afternoon I had a 5 foot drift against my back door. It took 2 hours to dig out with the snow blower.

Thanks for kind words everyone. No Z, I haven’t replaced Bubba. I just couldn’t train another dog after him. Hopefully all of us get one dog in our lives that can never be replaced. Bubba was the one for me. Looks like a lot of stories I wrote about him are still around but without the photos. Good to see the board is hosting its own photos now.
Almost everyone asks if I’ve transitioned to night hunting. Honestly I can’t think of anything more miserable than sitting on a stand for 10-15 minutes in the dark during winters in Montana. It was -22 below zero two weeks ago with a windchill of -37. I killed two coyotes that day. Thankfully the sun was shining, otherwise it would have been unbearable. I told the rancher whose land I was hunting on that I saw 6 magpies, 4 ravens, 2 coyotes and one nut that day! He agreed 🤪

Mike, when I was younger I used to think like that. I used to think that about -15 Fahrenheit with a little snow cover and no wind was the perfect time to call because the coyotes had to be moving all day. Now I am not that nut anymore and have become a fair weather caller.😆

Glad you found us again. Neat to keep a log of your endeavors.

Since you're "retired" for the year, no excuses to stay away.;)

Unfortunately the price has tanked since the wars in Europe and Canada Goose decided to go Woke. They are using fake coyote ruffs on their parka's now. I'm hoping for anything over $20 which is pretty pitiful as I averaged over $100 not too long ago.
