Isn't The Answer.....

Always a new gun??? Found myself in a pickle.....

The last couple years I have discovered I like red dots on my pistols. 1st one I put on my Browning Buckmark, which was a Vortex Venom. Trouble was, it was more of a cluster of grapes, rather than a single dot. They blamed it on my eyes, so I sold it, & bought a Holosun 407K with a 6 MOA dot....Nirvana!

So then I had to buy a new Springfield Armory Prodigy, which came optics ready in 9mm. Topped it with the same Holosun, & shot the dickens out of it.

So this is where the pickle comes in. I was down to one 1911 45, a Ruger full size S/S SR1911. A couple years ago I put Truglo sights on it, which made it so much better to see to shoot. I started shopping to see what was out there in optics ready 1911's. Springfield has 3 models, roughly 900,1100, & 1300. Checking on the value of my Ruger, I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the coin on a new one, & take a bath on selling it. So then I thought maybe just send in the Ruger & get it milled for a direct bolting of a RD. Of course my 100 dollar sights on it was the next question, try to sell, or stick them on the shelf?

Checking Cabela's gun library, there happened to be a S/S Ruger SR1911 45 Commander in the "local" store 70 miles away. The wheels started turning, & the decision was made to buy it, take the Truglos off the 5" & slide them on the 4 1/4" Commander, & then send the 5" slide in for milling. Two's always better than one, right?

The gun could have almost passed for new. They wouldn't drop the price any because it was just traded in last week, but I got my 5% off for being retired volunteer firefighter, & another 30 I had in points.

It came with all the paper work, factory hard case, & two mags. Quick pic when I got home:

Even when it's not the answer.......It's still the answer.

Tisas is another newer brand to check out and most come optics ready at a reasonable price.

Unless your Truglow rear sight is adjustable you may have an issue with the 5" guns fixed sights on the shorter Commander slide. The problem will be with it shooting to the point of aim vertically. You may need a new front sight of a different height to get your shots hitting the center vertically.

Absolutely.

Once I spotted the Ruger I didn't look elsewhere due to knowing my sights would interchange.
Some like to advertise their dovetail as "Novak like", which isn't the same as a true Novak cut.

I went through that in the past with other guns.

I have another Ruger LW Commander, also with the Truglos I installed, that zeroed just fine.

I already shot the new one yesterday & today. I eyeballed center & shot my reloads, & it was printing left.

Moved the rear, & shot again today, and all is good.

I got the 5" slide off in the mail today too, so anxious to get that back.

I picked up a poor man's Stacatto last year. Got looking around online & found a new/used Springfield Armory 9mm Prodigy in stock at Cabelas in Az. It was a show demo they had picked up, while being new & unfired, they had to sell it as used, & they shipped it to my local store. Got it for a great price after a discount & burning my points.
