Iron sight question

I have to replace the front sight on my muzzleloader and would like to get one that puts the rear sight down on to the ramp. It comes off the ramp and always bothered me. Should I order a higher or lower front sight?
Thanks

Lowering the front sight would require lowering the rear sight to maintain the same zeroing distance. Are you saying the rear sight is moved so far up the ramp that it doesn't tighten properly? A small amount of the proper locktite between ramp surfaces(and overnight drying time) should keep it secure. If lowering the rear sight 0.10 inches will secure it, lower front by the same amount. Too low and stock fit/ aiming could be a problem.

Typically there is a side friction screw and the elevation screw that moves the sight up or down on the ramp(this one serves as a stop and a return to zero). Williams is usually pretty good customer service, although I haven't talked with them for several years.

Thanks guys
I was going to try a different sight company but decided to give them another shot.I ordered a lower sight. I’ll just be a lot more cautious when leaning my gun on something.

I will measure my sights on my TC renegade. Rear bottom of notch height 0.335 front sight top of the blade/head is 0.38. Factory sights. So you can go lower and shoot well

I made a riser block to raise a Lyman 575ML aperture rear sight for use on Browning Hawken back in the late 90's.
Installed a vintage ajustable aperture (forerunner of Merit Disc). Excellent combo if you can find one.

Thanks, Gary. Birthday gift from wife & son many years ago. Son took me on a black powder elk hunt near Gunnison and I put the receiver sight on it because I could not see open sight well enough to suit me. Was hunting on 9-11 with it.
I just checked and couldn't fing the ML sight listed anywhere. It was a really easy fit to tang, but needed the riser. Shot conical bullets about an inch and a half @ 100 w/lots of ffg. Unfortunately didn't get a shot on the elk hunt.

I just put an sx peep sight on my 3030 if it works out I’m going to look into putting something on this gun.
I really like the merit disc, especially for hunting in poor light. You can use smaller aperture to sharpen front sight when you have plenty of light & you can open up the aperture as you lose light. They are a bit expensive, but well worth the cost, especially w/"mature" eyes.

If you can't find a conventional sight like the ML, you could probably find SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO FIT.
