Hunting without a scanner

Who all night hunts without a scanner? And should you be? Reading the VA thread it doesn’t clarify one way or the other if they had scanners or not.

It seems to me having a scanner would alleviate a lot of flagging.

I think of it like day hunting. I was taught at a young age not to “scope” stuff. You used binoculars to verify it was your target before pointing your rifle at it.

Night hunting without a scanner you pretty much have to “scope” something to identify it.

Seems like a pretty crappy practice after thinking about it.
