Hints for finding coyotes

Howdy, I got invited to hunt central NM by Socorro. We hunted east between San Antonio and Carrizozo by the White Sands Missile Range. Man, what great looking country for coyotes. We saw various amounts of sign, tracks, scat, etc. We did 16 stands in two days and saw only one coyote at 100 yards. I shot right over him.... We paid attention to: car noise, hiding car, wind, walking in (about 3/4 mile from car), used e-callers (Lucky Duck and the FREQ, mouth calls, changes sequences, etc. We hunted early and late in the day. The dang coyotes were laughing at us the next morning at coyote coffee I'm sure. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve a day like this one? thanks, R

A quote from SnowmanMo. Those are called "Scouting days" . Mark the good stands you found for the future.

I haven't hunted that area but have taken the back way from Las Vegas to Alamogordo and it t looks like a great place to hunt. I travel I-25 quite a bit and have seen less than usual dead coyotes along the interstate through the Socorro area, actually all the way from Las Cruces to Albuquerque. This year has been slow for me also.

Hunting desert country I look for stock tanks, water is not common out here, one of the most surprising things in the desert is named river might not have water in it for years.
