Had to brag on one of my boys a bit this morning. Jackson is 14 and has taken up knife making. He's always had himself a knife collection (100's) of pocket knives and belt knives. Some junk and some that are heirloom quality. He started tinkering making blades several years ago and finally decided he wanted to get serious about it. The first was made out of an old buzz saw blade and a chunk of antler was used for the handle material. His latest is the red/blue handled knife with 1095 that he built as a gift for one of his good friends. Seeing his progression has really impressed me. These are not all that he's made, just what I had pics of. He's learning to work with leather as well. To date, I've built the sheaths for him but I think his next, he'll be ready to try it himself. This kid has also saved money to outfit his (my former) shop with the tools necessary for his work. Drill press, belt sander, bench grinders, forge, anvils, etc. I am sure tickled that he has so much interest in it and a desire to "out do" the last knife he made with the next!
