Got to love an accurate rifle

I hadn't shot my 308 in a while. I been messing with other rifles to much. But I buddy called me and said he was going to the club and ask me to meet him there. I told him I doubt I would make it today but after a bit of thinking I changed my mind. I grabbed a couple of box's of handloads and my rfle and headed out. When I got there I decided I wasn't gonna shoot paper today and just hung my steel up at 200 and 300yds. Put a 6" at 200 and a 4" at 300. The 6" at 200yds was just to easy so I went to 300 and the 4" steel. I forgot my dial ups so I was kinda guessing and missed a few times so I drove out and hung a paper target and shot one round. With the Nightforce seeing a 308 hole wasn't hard and I was about 4'' low. Made an adjustment and was banging steel in no time. Much more fun than punching holes in paper but after I got dialed in even a 4" steel t 300yds got a little boring but thats as far as we can shoot. still a fun day with my buddy.

Always a good day when together to shoot.
Monday I got to go over to my friend’s house to shoot. He does alot of Rimfire match shooting and he has taken me under his wing. I’ve learned so much in the last few weeks and surprised at how much my shooting has improved. I think the only downside is that I will definitely be spending more $$ on purchasing equipment, ammo and probably a match rifle.

I'm working on buying some steel for the club as we speak. I want to set up a steel challenge similar to Cortina's "Blackjack Challenge". We only have 300 yds so it won't be that difficult for some but I think the members will enjoy it. A few years ago I had a 500 yd range approved but I got stabbed in the back by a few members (skeet shooters) saying we would have to shut the club down to shoot 500yds. Not true at all but never the less my range got cancelled. But I haven't given up on it either. Just not kicking the sleeping dog right now.

I shot HP rifle comp for years and always figured it to be harder than smallbore........until a friend got me started on
outdoor smallbore. I learned real quick that I still had a lot to learn! My HP scores improved considerably from shooting SB.

When I first joined our club, we had a combined shotgun and a 200 yard rifle range. There was always a bit of contention between the two; not serious, but obviously our goals differed. When we lost our range and had to find another location, the rift widened and we decided to each take their toys and find another venue. Best thing that ever happened to the club (from a rifle shooter's perspective). We each went our own way; not sure how the shotgun club is doing, but the rifle/pistol shooters are still enjoying our 600 yard rifle and 50 yard pistol range some 30 years later.

My friend shoots IR 50/50 and is in the Hall of Fame, extremely accomplished shooter. I couldn’t ask for a better mentor. He has a room full of trophy’s, plaques and certificates.
I too thought, “well how hard can 50yd Rimfire be?” It’s humbling for sure.
I did my 1st match back in. December, didn’t finish last, but had some problems with the rifle. Most important thing was what I learned and took away from it.

My biggest takeaways from smallbore is wind doping and follow through. Wind doping was never a strong point for me but 100 yard smallbore was indeed a benefit.

Good prices on ebay for AR500 steel. I buy from this guy (link below) and with free shipping it beats in-store prices by a lot.
