Got out Monday night

Made 4 sets with the first being productive and hearing the same pr/group on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as I closed the distance along this long ridge, but they never showed up. They were in the hollow on the W side of this ridge, and I could never tell which side of the hollow they were on. The last set was about a mile from the first on this ridge and about 400-600 from them.
Anyhow, back to the one that worked. Wind from the SW, call about 60 yds S of me. Played some rat for 3 min then some bird louder for about 3-4 min and silence. There was a small deer feeding by the island of brush in the vid that went on alert and looked to the W then bounded E.
"Got one comin" I say to myself. Shortly I see a white head then the rest of it. It acts like it might follow the deer trail, so I turn the call back on. I had turned the volume down before muting it and I can't hear it because THIS DUMMY forgot to put his hearing aids in after I showered. He turned and came towards me, so I muted again as I usually do. The second time he stopped I thought he was around 200 (according to my reticle) and for some reason I shot. If they are coming, I want them to keep coming.
Anyhow, DRT @ about 8-10 min 223yd per onx male-maybe YOY but getting to the time of year I hate to guess unless they are big or toothless ;)

223 yds is a long shot, good job. Like you if they're coming I try to wait but sometimes the shot just feels right. The only down side to killing one at 223 is that it is a 446 yd round trip for recovery. That is why I hunt with a buddy that is 35 years younger than I am. I guard the rifles, he does the recovery.
Again, good job on a long shot.

Now that is one good hunting buddy! At my age I fully understand that round trip thing.

Stoned him šŸ˜ƒ ! The idea of let them get as close as possible has bit me in the azz way to many times. My philosophy is to shoot when you have what you think is a good shot ! Then comes the thought, could have, would have, should have, when things go bad ! Awesome when they do what you want them to !
Nice shot Mike !

Nice shooting Mike. 223 at night is a poke! Good luck in keeping your best season yet going. Youā€™re killing it so far!
