Got another one

This one went down bang flop late yesterday evening. I recently started using an ATN night vision scope and so far have taken 3 with the Ruger American 243 pushing Hornady Vmax. Yes, there is an exit hole  One thing bothers me, afraid I'm going down the rab

bit hole headed for a thermal set-up. Oh well, it's only money!

I started with NV, my only complaint was if it started snowing/blowing snow I was done for the night. With thermal target acquisition is still possible.
Yeah Spot, I was set up on south end of fairly open terrain, some here and there tall weeds, wind out of northwest to my left shoulder. Playing coyote fights and kept thinking I was seeing something moving from the northwest. Continued to look that way occasionally and convinced myself nothing there. Muted the call for a short period of time and suddenly the coyote made a run very near the caller (I had put tall grass over caller) and disappeared into the thick tree line to the east. Now I'm replaying it all in my mind and doing more scanning (through the rifle scope) and suddenly discovered he had appeared out of the thicket and was sitting about 30 yards east of the caller.
I've been reviewing lots of thermal products and makers and maybe will make a decision. From what I can see, thermal is much better.

Bud using thermals is addicting.

If I can help you with any advice give me a call. I’ve owned several and will be glad to share my experience with what I’ve used.

Nice going on the kill. I’m running a 243 with 75 gr Vmax and it’s a toss up on the mess factor. Sometimes it’s friendly, sometimes it gets pretty mean!

I switched from digital NV to thermal for the exact same reason as spotstalkshoot. Being able to see coyotes with my thermal scanner, and then not being able to see them in my scope was very frustrating. A couple times of that, and the decision was made to go thermal on the rifle.

Nothing against NV in the right situations. Terrain here is just to diverse, and coyotes too few. When you are successful at getting one or two in front of you, it’s tough to swallow when you can’t find them with the crosshairs.
