I picked up the new Garmin Xero C1 chronograph to replace my Magnetospeed. I never trusted accuracy with the Magnetospeed clamped to my barrels, which really limited it's usefulness. My Magnetospeed didn't seem to affect accuracy, but it DID shift POI up 1moa. I never used it while developing loads.
The Garmin Xero C1 is very cool! It comes with a mini tripod and should be set up within about 5"-15" of the muzzle. It is tiny in size and weighs almost nothing. The unit is very simple to operate, and the menu is easy to use. You can turn it on and start shooting for record in less than 10 seconds. Session data is stored on the unit, and easily transfers to a phone app for better viewing and editing etc. The app allows you to exclude or edit shots, and label the session.
I first tried it prone shooting 500 yards from a bipod. Even though the unit's line of sight was partially obscured by tall weeds, it still read every shot. Next, I stood up and fired some 9mm at steel plates at 20 and 25 yards with the Xero directly below the muzzle. I'm 6'4" tall so it didn't work, it needs to be closer to the muzzle. I knew that but wanted to try. So I put the Xero on my car hood and shot next to it. That picked up every shot as long as you pause a few seconds between shots while the Xero processes. No rapid fire.
Next I took it to the public range and used it from the shooting table. It worked flawlessly and never picked up anyone else's shots. Aiming it is easy, you just sorta point it generally towards your target, and that's it. There"s not much else to say. It's simple, small, and works very well.
It does not come with a case, so I picked up a storage case on Amazon for $10.
I'm going to be using this thing a lot, as opposed to my Magnetospeed which I rarely use.
