Gander Mountain ad

Stopped into my local Gander this morning after seeing the Father's day ad that had 1600 round ammo boxes of CCI minimags for $119. Got there at 5 minutes after opening, walked toward gun section and was greeted by an employee standing next to the boxes of minimags. Handed me one without word. I asked him how many have been sold and he said 10-15 people were waiting in line before opening. 6 other guys were in checkout lines all with their ammo boxes. There were 30 or so boxes left and they thought it would be sold out in 20 minutes or less. One per person......actually surprised to get mine, thought they would be sold out when I got in at 9;05

I saw that ad as well, but I figured it'd be lucky if they had 2-3 of those per store. Nice to hear that they had so many available.

I have heard and seen encouraging signs lately. One LGS owner told me that every month they had been receiving more .22 RF than the previous month, so either more production is finally coming online or the hoarders are running out of money and bunker space and the slimy resellers are seeing demand fall as supply opens up.

I stopped into a smaller gun shop off the beaten path in SD last week and my eyes nearly popped out of my head. Shelves full of powder for reloading. Stuff I hadn't seen in 2 years was there in quantity.

Sure wished that would happen here. Between the local Cabelas, Sportsmans and a fairly good sized locally owned shop you couldn't put together 10 pounds of powder between them.

No, I would pass on that offer also.

I was in Florida about 2 weeks ago and visited a Green acres sporting goods store, they were fully stocked with powder and 22 lr. I checked the prices on them and found out why they were fully stocked, 1 lb of powder was $49.95 and $79.99 for a 333 box or 22lr.

Them dirty rotten sonsa.........

Couldn't have imagined I'd see the day when grown men were excited to see 22lr ammo. Don't read me wrong, I get it, but it's a sad day I think.

I remember when I was pretty young and my Grandpa bought a whole brick of Winchester Wildcats and handed out a few individual boxes like they were gold. We are about back to that stage again, but for entirely different reasons.

These are situations where loyalty is created. I intend to remember, very well, who was gouging and who was not. AR prices are reaching temptingly low levels. The cheapest in my area are held by the gougers of ammo and powder. I hope they build big enough caskets to be buried with them. I'll spend the extra $50 to get it from the guys who have earned my loyalty.

Well, of course Ron, according to some on this forum, this whole thing is all really just our own fault. We all should have seen it coming, the inevitable day when ripoff artists, slimy price-gougers, and asshat hoarders would all conspire to dry out the ammo and component market for years on end.

So, really, we're to blame for the situation because we should have "stocked up" back when shelves were full and it was obvious to everyone that at common-as-dirt commodity would suddenly become impossible to find. Then we could all be sitting in our bunkers getting our jollies sitting on top of a giant pile of .22 shells that were too valuable to shoot because then what would you replace them with?

But yes, I totally agree. I'm going to take great pleasure in making sure a select few gouging shops get told in person why I'm NOT buying from them anymore. Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't, but they made their bed, so now they lie in it.

Just a few years ago $119 would have bought 6000 rounds of .22lr ammo. Holy moly times have changed. Not for the better either.

They have the right to sell their products at any price they want too just like I have the right to shake my head and walk out the door without buying anything.

Last Gander ad I jumped at was roughly a year ago when they had Ruger 1911s for $525, turned out it was a misprint, had a bunch of misprints in that ad as a lot of guys seemed unhappy.
