Gamo air rifles... junk?

Has any body tried the Gamo Shadow 1000? is it any good? its a good price and i might get it but i want some insight on it
 
The Gamos seem to be decent rifles for the price, but as someone above wrote, they aren't in the same level as the better European models. I'd avoid the Chinese junk all together, although saying that will get you flamed on many forum. For a little more money than the Gamos, you can get a much better made rifle from RWS or Beeman (not including the cheap Spanish guns now being imported by Beeman).

Cody, any of the Gamo's that shoot 1000fps will have the same pump. They are mechanically the same thing. The only difference the Shadow has is the black/synthetic stock. If it looks cool and you like it then buy it. Myself, I had to go with the cheapest 1,000fps shooter I could get and why the 220 hunter was my choice. The 440 was too much money for "looks" for me. They shoot identically in terms of velocity. Each rifle will have it's favorite ammo so be sure to grab various weights and pellet shapes and take your time shooting groups. Practice with that rifle/recoil/trigger will help, too.

Mine loved anything light and pointed such as the old daisy silvertip 7.9gr....then when they were unavailable I went to the gamo pointed 7.9 with great results.

One point of info: never dry fire the rifle. You can ruin the seal on the pump piston. Salespersons think it cool to c**k and dry-fire but it will ruin accuracy and power. Select one that has never been out of the box. Take your time breaking it in and never lube the piston as it will cause "dieseling" which will also ruin the seal.

Bought a gun. Now Gamo refuses to give me the time of day...​


I ordered a gun from Gamo believing I'd be better off buying direct should I need help later. When I made a request of them, I was told they would get back to me 3 to 7 days if they are not too busy. Which no response or help from Gamo, I followed their procedure to cancel my order within an hour of ordering. It said just click the cancel button on the order page. There is NO Cancel button to click. They refuse to allow anyone to leave a message or answer my (5) emails. Three days later, I regret assuming they cared about their customers -- they don't! I am another victim in their scam to rip off customers.

Two of my sons both have a Gamo. Don't remember the model of the first (4-5 years old now) and the latest is a Shadow Sport. I, personally, am not impressed by either. Both were Wal Mart guns. I've bought pellets off the shelf as well as ordered some trying to find a good match for them and have yet to find a pellet that will consistently stay within 6 inches of each other at 30 yards. I've chalked it up to being a typical "bb gun" thing. To be quite honest, the only pellet/bb gun I've ever been impressed with was a Benjamin .22 cal pellet pistol I had as a kid. I would regularly "snipe" birds from my "hide" (upstairs bedroom window) lol. It was quite accurate out to about 60 yards which in my opinion is pretty dang accurate for any pistol much less a pellet gun. I also had, a crossman, I think CO2 semi auto pellet rifle. Probably killed more rabbits with that thing than a 22lr! I bought the same rifle a few years ago to plink with the kids around the house for rabbit, squirrel and dove but it is also very hit or miss on accuracy. I think I were an airgunner (which I am not) I would rather spend my money on an ol' Benjamin. Always seemed to hear good things and from my experience with the aforementioned pistol, I don't think I'd hesitate to buy one of their rifles. Based on what I've seen from the Gamo rifles, they are not much better than a high powered Red Ryder.
