Frosty four dog night

My regular hunting partners Michael and Ken were busy with family last night but Cason was able to go for four stands and I hunted two more by myself after he headed home.

It was a cool night in Ga with a light NW wind. Even with the wind the fields got frosty early last night.

On our first stand we called in what we thought were foxes and our season doesn’t open till Dec 1st for them.

Second stand we had a pair come running in about 30 seconds after the first howls. I had a clear shot but Cason had to shoot through the limbs of a tree and missed. I hit pup squeals but it didn’t come back. I let out a series of howls and here she comes running back in. Cason didn’t miss this time.

The one l shot was a good size male with a white tipped tail.

We called in a raccoon on the 3rd stand and Cason terminated it.

On our 4th stand one that was probably around 300 yards away answered to the first series of howls. She was in a patch of woods that is surrounded by pasture. After being quiet for a few minutes I played submissive begger and it wasn’t but a few minutes she came slipping in. Cason made a good shot on her.

Cason had to head home and l decided to try a couple of other nearby properties that I had notified the owners earlier in the day about hunting.

I called in a healthy size sliver colored male that made #4 on my fifth stand.

On my 6th and last stand there was a coyote mousing around on a hillside about 600 yards away. He had to see me park and get out but he stayed on that hillside until I got across the cattle gate and got my call set up.

I played several sounds before he came my way. He got within a couple of hundred yards but wouldn’t ever stop for a shot and ran back over to the far hillside.

I threw a few more sounds at him and here he comes again. He got to about 200 yards and sat down facing me. I thought I was pretty steady but the video shows l pulled to the right just as I squeezed the trigger.

Should have had #5 for the night.

Would any of y’all believe that’s the first coyote I’ve ever missed…….😉😉😉

I didn’t think so. Lol 😂

That was a good night Keith. I guess the new leveling head and Iray scope are working out for you. Any complaints on either of them yet?

Mike I’m really liking the leveling head ! I like the image and all the functionality of the scope but I have had some issues with it.

The image has frozen up a few times on the shot and you have to power it down and back on. I’ve had a few other glitches too.

I've owned Flir, Pulsar, Trijicon, and NVision and all of them except the old Flir Scouts had some kind of issue. I figured out how to work around the NVision and Trijicon issues, I returned both Pulsars
