Franklin & Henry Co. , VA. Coyotes ???

Hi Folks,

New to the forum & yote hunting as well. Was wondering if anyone coyote hunts in these areas and if there are any callable (if that's a word) #'s of yotes in these counties.

Reason I ask is that I've been deer hunting there for the last 18 yrs. or so, ( but I live down in the VA. Bch. area) and I'm aware of a few yote sightings by the locals in the last few years in that area.

I'm very interested in doing some calling up that way, but don't really know if there is a large enough yote population to even make it worth messing with as it's a 4.5 hour drive from me.

I've got a new Savage Predator Hunter in .204 on order that hopefully will be here in a few weeks that I'd like to be able to break in on some yotes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif.

Appreciate any info you might have.

Many Thanks,

YB

I would say every county in VA has some yotes. I hunt in Montgomery , Lee and Scott County and have killed in all three county. I had five answer the howl today in Lee but couldn't get them to cross the creek to come to the call. The only way to know for sure is get out and call or if it snows then get out and look for sign. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi bea175,

and thanks for the reply! I know that there are at least a few in the area. One of the nearby locals caught one on his trailcam right before deer season started.

My hunt club has a couple of thousand acres that we deer hunt and there were no reported sightings on our land during deer season, so I was assuming the population was still pretty low in the area.

We don't have any dedicated predator hunters in my club who have done any calling in the area, so I was hoping that maybe someone familiar with the area might have some insite.

Guess the best way to find out is as you suggest and get out there and make a few stands. Good excuse to get out of the "Burbs" and up in the mountains for a few days if nothing else.

Thanks,

YB

A friend of mine went to college in Franklin co. about 10 years ago and called one up spring turkey hunting. He said there were reports about them being seen there quite often.
