Mature whitetail making a scrape I was 30 yards from him. Gonna target this buck for my wife to shoot.
I guided in south Texas for 30 years maybe a few more, He isn’t a cull he’d be a management buck. A cull is an extra deer you let your hunter kill cause they paid an exorbitant amount of money to hunt with you. That deer that deer is a solid 6.5 year old. Don’t look at him with when his neck is stretched tight while up in the tree. Look at him when he 1st walks up and see there is no break in the neck goes straight to brisket. I didn’t say he was a super trophy he’s just a nice mature whitetail.Old Coyote Trapper, To me that looks like a 4 1/2 yr old buck, down here in S.Texas we would call him a Cull or Management Buck. Murl B.
He’s making a place for does to come. They’ll pee n poop in that spot where he did, when they come into estrus and get ready to breed. He will come by there often and check it. Fact lots of bucks will run through there checking that scrape. The branch he’s rubbing on he is leaving his scent from his glands.Something he liked in the tree?
Oh definitely south Texas has some truly great genetics. This west Texas has some nice deer but it’s very dry here all though every year I see a few good ones.Oldcoyotetrapper, to me that looks like a shooter! Up here in Central New York that would be a welcomed sight to anybody! I think it would make a fine shooter for your wife.
To Murl B’s point, I know what he’s saying judging by some of the S Texas bucks these fellows post pics of. Truly amazing animals.
This year our rut is way out of sorts. Normally 1st of Nov till around mid March or whenever the bucks start to loose their antlers. It’s way off for some reason.Old Coyote hunter, Is that Scrap this year or from last year?I am not seeing any Scraps here yet. Murl B.
Watched this one make one from about 40yds. Sorry for the quality I’d been watching him feed about 60yds away before he finally came out in the “open” close to dark.
Here tooWell, all I can say is if he came by me he'd get smoked. Where I have to hunt that's a good deer.
Very true I like his 2s and that Muley forkSome folks, when they see a nice buck just see a nice buck. They don't look for the defining features that helps the observer, if they are a trophy hunter, decide if this is the one to shoot or let him walk til another season. Details will put that true trophy on the wall.
