Filmed day of hunting

So for over a year now a friend and I have been trying to get together to film a coyote hunt for his hunting YouTube channel. Finally we were able to make it happen.
At the break of dawn I met Katlin with CTA outdoors. And we got out to make the first stand.
This was one of my best "sure thing" stands and I had even piled a bunch of snow with the work tractor to position us in the best position for great footage.
Figures. It's foggy. Well we can see 100 yards at least so may as well try. First set of howls revealed multiple coyotes. Tried some more howls and some distress to no avail. Did some kiyi sounds on the howler and then a coyote shaped ghost appeared to our left. I drew up on the coyote and waited for the go ahead to shoot. Just as Katlin got the camera to focus through the fog the coyote moved again. Now he was hard left and at the call to shoot I rushed and pulled the shot right in front of the coyote!

We tried some more and even saw a second take off but no luck.
2 dud stands later brought us deep into the back of a friend's ranch land.
Setting up in the middle of a grazed corn patch I started with howls. Moments later Katlin spotted movement. "There's 2....no wait?... There's another! And another!" 4 coyotes gathered on the far hillside to howl back at us! This time ky-yi's had them barking and chirping as they slowly played their way towards us. Sure enough after on and off calling they started to pop over the hill.

Trying not to create movement I lip squeaked but they stayed rooted. Knowing the terrain would make for tricky shooting we decided to take them where they were. Estimating 250 yards I held and fired and the coyote dropped and began a death spiral. Back on the ki-yi I called one back and fired.... Miss. It stops again at my bark and sure enough I missed again! After walking to the coyote we discovered the distance to be almost 350 and I had shot under the second coyote and just barely caught the first one.

2 more stands brought us to the final stand of the day. The melting snow in this spot meant that I was stuck out in the open wearing white.
Hoping to get away with "looking like a snowbank" we pressed on with the stand. Long story short 3 coyotes came in and saw my snowbank impression and left as fast as they came.
Happy with at least one coyote we headed back.
Coming up past the ranch I spied a coyote trotting along a hill in the distance. We made a hasty plan and before long found the coyote crouched and slowly stalking a gopher.

We got in position and we're happily filming a d watching when it broke the stalk and looked up at us. With a resounding boom WHUMP coyote 2 was down to finish off the day.

Despite the low number on the day it was fun to add a whole new challenging element to calling and hopefully we will be able to do more of it!
And here is the edited video from katlins YouTube page.

Thanks for posting the video with beautiful country in it!.

I liked the coyote sneaking up on the gopher, it looked like a cat.
It was super cool we wanted to try and get film of it catching one but after looking back we realized the truck was in full view from where it was standing.

That gopher hunting is cool! Last fall I helped my daughter hunt elk in the Valles Caldera National Preserve. The only hunting allowed there is for elk and turkey, so coyotes haven't been harassed in years. As a result, they are active at all times during the day and have no issues being out around people. While sitting at the visitor center one early afternoon we watched five coyotes stalk a prairie dog town, grab two prairie dogs, and share them amongst themselves. Not for the squeamish nature lover! :)

That's pretty cool! I'd be tempted to lip squeak them in all the time even if I can't hunt em. Watching them hunt is always super cool!
