First dog for me this season last week, was a short and sweet hunt. had a little time with getting off work early for the day and have been hearing the dogs light up at night in the back quarter calling me into the field. So with my spare time i decided to grab my 6mm and my calls and go for a walk. Something about my back field in the fall just always seems to produce yotes, i have a lot of farmers with cattle surrounding me so i know they are never far. i set up along side the fence next to a short spruce along a shaded side. my fox pro gave out of me last winter after about 12 years of hard use so couldnt complain but decided this year Im going to stop neglecting my hand calls and get the job done. I sat for a few minutes letting the field quiet down after walking in and grabbed my call and was blowing on it for about 30 seconds when i see movement at the other bush line straight ahead of me about 580 yards out so i slowly let off the call and shoulder my rifle up to steady on her still looking with my plain eye at this time she is still charging in without one check up. shes at around 300 yards i get her in my cross hairs and tell myself her first stop Im pulling punching the card, to my surprise this moment isnt coming shes just charging the whole way. So I started zooming out my scope finally my scope is out all the way and she aint stopping, i give a bark to check her up and send one to the button. The 6mm with 105 gr bthp dropped her on the spot. Little pup didnt even get a second thought.
