ER Shaw barrels

I got someone local wanting to sale me an ER Shaw barrel in 22-250. He said he bought it to replace a swift barrel but sold the rifle and never installed the Shaw.

Any of ya'll used/have one, if so, how did it perform velocity and accuracy wise?

Good or bad feedback welcome.

Not a 22-250, but I picked a 24" 10 twist varmint contour in 243 last year for night hunting. I wanted something quick and that was what was available. That was also before eabco's price hike. It shoots 65 and 75 vmax great. I wanted to shoot 70 bts or 87 vmax but those grouped poorly. Could see copper fouling just inside the muzzle for the first couple cleanings through the 1st 100 but after that it looks like the fouling has stopped. For the 260ish bucks it cost Im very pleased.

I've had 3 shaw barrels and they all shoot well. I have 22-250 sporter, 20 vt heavy sporter and a 222 heavy sporter. My buddy shoots a 7 twist 22-250 for deer and loves it.

I won the PM Egg Shoot with a Shaw 222 barrel. My 6mm-204 barrel is a rechambered 6x47 Rem Shaw barrel. If the price is right I wouldn't turn it down. Years ago Shaw had a rep as cheap barrels. They retooled and have been making pretty decent barrels.

My 222 is getting a long in age but I did shoot it in a couple of postal BR matches and so far it has a 50 shot aggregate of .8

Shaw has been around for a very long time, and has put many of their barrels on manufacturers that are extremely popular in the marketplace.

He wanted 200. I backed out because he said he never mounted it but yet I could see copper fouling at the muzzle, muzzle not threaded, and its a 14 T and I'm wanting a 12.

Does Shaw ever run any kind of specials/sales?

I greatly appreciate the feedback all.

How would you rate a Shaw compared to Wilson or Douglas?
Douglas has been for many years considered a precision rifle barrel manufacturer, but does not do a lot of oem work. Wilson is primarily a OE manufacturer like Shaw. Comparing these three is like picking which flavor apple you want from the grocery store. Douglas will be the standard bearer in my opinion, but simply is not as widely known today as they used to be with our previous generation of shooters.

Hope that helps :D

Is the Shaw barrel a pre-fit or just a blank? Or is it threaded for an action. One way or another it will need head spaced to your action and if its a blank it will need a bunch of machine work. If you can't do it yourself then you'll have to have it done. It all figures into the cost of the barrel. Might be more cost effective to step up in quality if your going to have to pay. A guy in Tulsa is selling pre-fit Wilsons pretty reasonable and has a really good reputation for accurate barrels. Just a thought.

You can order directly from Shaw and specify things like that, finished chamber, etc. You can have them preformed various gunsmithing tasks too. I install all my own barrels setting headspace with a go gauge and use/add a piece of scotch tape to check for no go.

Shaw also sales builder kits that has the barrel, barrel nut, barrel nut wrench with go/no gauges too.

FYI- I've already bought one blued 22-250 barrel from a PM member that I got a sweet deal on that I will use on my Savage straight pull, but looking to build another one using a Solus Action and SS BB barrel, threaded muzzle (suppressor ) w/ 12 T.
