Setup yesterday about 30 minutes before dusk, second time hunting this farm. About 7:00 or so started with pup distress for a few minutes paused for several minutes and then lead in with a Female yodel. Probably 5-10 minutes later a yote appears from the SW corner of the field, so I pull down on him and, what; miss again, what the heck? Course yote runs off and I’m sitting there scratching my head, oh… I took the scope off the AR and put it on my bolt gun and forgot to change scope profiles, yip that’ll do it for sure. Now what, I drove 40 minutes to get here, leave already? Decided to go stealth for about 30 minutes and let things HOPEFULLY settle down and about 5 minutes later they blew up just South of me I mean the whole squad was in attendance on this choir evening. So I get into invitation and interrogation calls along with a coyote pair, the whole draw is just blowing up, so I go stealth again figuring I’ve about called out. So one pops out of the timber about 350-400yds and just stands there, and I just can’t get him to commit and he disappears back into the timber. Time passes and as I scan back to the SE here comes a yote, looks like he’s committed and then another and another, there’s three of them.

Slowly they work their way up the draw appearing, and then disappearing again until finally I have a shot about 175 yards out. DRT Whop and he goes down in his tracks the little 40gr. Nosler BT found it’s mark and just as I swing onto another one he disappears in the brush, then re-appears running, then stops but not long enough to get a shot off. I almost had a double but not quite, I’ll be plenty happy with one yote and look forward to another set just a little East of here. One thing about hunting back East, just have to make longer sets because I have fewer farms to hunt, the longer set this evening bared fruit.
