Slapped my last buck tag on this joker— I always look forward to deer season, but once it's here, my anticipation for coyote hunting ignites. Deer hunting feels a bit like farming: planting the seeds of patience, cultivating stillness, and waiting for the harvest. In contrast, coyote hunting is like playing craps at high speed—it's a fast-paced game that keeps the mind sharp. Run and gun; if the coyotes don't come in quickly, take action and try a different spot.

As a deer hunter, NY is blessed with a long deer season. We can get after them pretty constant from October thru December where I live. Thru January elsewhere.

For a coyote hunter, NY is cursed with a long deer season that runs from October thru December where I live! Lol…

I wish they would shorten the season here. ours runs from Oct 1st - Jan 15.

We are allowed 2 bucks. I get picky on my last tag. I passed a good one opening day of rifle, I had been second guessing my choice wishing I took it. I got a shot at this one and had enough deer hunting for the year

Lots of deer here in Oklahoma. If you hunt all legal seasons you can take 6 total. For the squirrel hunters, 25 daily combination fox/grey, 50 in possession after first day.
Cottontail rabbit, 10 daily, 20 in possession after first day. I just reminded myself to get out more

It has not always been like this. Our deer population has grown significantly. I remember the rifle season when I was a kid was nine days and you could only shoot one doe the last two days of the season. Now they have extended the seasons and encourage killing a lot of does. Total season limit is six no more than 2 can be bucks, but we also have a holiday antlerless season where you can shoot two more does that don’t count towards the season limit. So one could actually kill 8 if you are willing to clean and mess with all the meat.

I used to hunt everything, all the game birds and small game. Now I only hunt fall deer, spring turkey and coyotes the rest of the year.
