How can I tell the difference between an all-black cow horn, and an actual buffalo/bison horn??

I'm not trying to be funny here.
I have a couple horns, mixed in with my cow horns...that are a lot thicker/heavier {de-cored}.

Most of the buff horn is usually covered this heavy nasty cracked layer of black horn. If there is better horn ou there that what I get, let me know.

Cow horn is made up of a material similiar to a fingernail. Buffalo is made of a similar material, but covered the top crusty layer is made up of hair. Size, shape and the hair crust will give it away.

like was already said, the buffalo horn will have a hairy kind of texture on the outside that runs with the length of the horn, cow horns grow in layers and more than likely have more of a scale, like a fish scale, outside layer.

OK, thanks to all for the responses! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
It's obvious from them, that what I have are just cow horns, that I was hoping were buffalo. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
