Coyotes ... hunt them close or way out there?

Ok you all, since most of us here are hunters of the east I have a question.
We don’t have vast sections of open desert country, where you can see forever, like some of our western counterparts.
Question: How many of you all hunt coyote on open farm land where you can see a coyote for say 500 yards and who hunts areas where 100 yards is a long shot?
Most of my coyote hunting is done on small farms bordered by thickly wooded forests, I hunt the woods so I’m in the 100 yard group, a longer shot for me is very rare. When I call one in 50-75 yards the norm. When hunting, I see very few coyotes in open pastures here, they usually travel the edges.

. I call on old logging roads, power lines,ATV&snowmobile trails, etc. 100 yards is a very long shot for me. I have I think 3 stands were I can see over 100 yards.

I'm right in there with you CH1. Most farms around here run from 40 acres to a hundred.Even if they are bigger they are still cut up with woodslots and fencrows. The cover is where the coyote's stay during daylight hours so you have to go in there and get them. Most shots are from 35 to a hundred yards at the most.I do get maybe one shot a year over that distance.Jimmie

Field? What is that? I hunt the heavy timber and brush of the Missouri Ozarks. 100 yards is a long poke for me.

My biggest areas to hunt have large dairy farms with fields that can be 500 or a 1000
yards long and wide also. The woods around here are small and what we have is huge cutovers that are so thick you can't possibly hunt in them so you hunt the edges. I usually take rifle and shotgun and its a pain but I've been burned too many times not to haul'em along. The thick stuff is just too thick to hunt in so you have to set up outside.

For the last few stands I've hunted it would be hard to get a 100 yrder. But on average I probley could get one out to a 100. But up here I like to hunt the ceder tickets and the farms I have its all woods.

We have pasture woodlots and river bottoms of several hundred acres in size this is my preferred area to hunt early and late in the day. After the sun is up for a couple of hours I hunt the woods it is harder hunting but it will allow me to hunt latter in the day.If it's cloudy and cold I can hunt the more open areas all day.
Theres nothing like seeing a coyote cross several hundred yards of open land.
