Coyote hunting in Cleveland National Forest in Orange County?

Does anyone hunt coyotes in the Cleveland National Forest near Orange County?

I have been hiking in Modjeska and Silverado Canyons. I have hiked off Ortega highway too. I have never seen so much scat and tracks in my life! It is a national forest. So, you can legally hunt. You can use rifles or shotguns.

But, the problem I have found is that the terrian is so overgrown and steep that it is difficult to get off the trail 150 yards to legally hunt. If you could get off trail, it would be difficult to see anything coming in.

Has anyone been able to successfully hunt this area? It is so close to me it is painful to not hunt. I even took my Foxpro on Harding Truck trail and called in a Gray Fox just for fun (didn't shoot him).

(This is kind of like living next to the most beautiful beach in the world and not being able to go in because it is shark infested)

dave3006, those areas have been predator hunted for 60 years or more.
I hunted Silverado canyon back in the 60s, the canyon use to go all the way through the mountians, lot's of fox and cats at the time, probably all houses now.
They had a Silverado gun club that was one of the best in California back then.
The side dirt roads were ok hunting off Ortega highway years ago. I don't know if it's even legal to hunt in California anymore? lol. Good Hunting

PS, was lots of lions years ago, way to many now. Don't be suprised if you call one up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I grew up in Irvine, spent alot of time in both canyons.
Ran into several liberal tree hugging types who threatened to call the man when they saw me with a AR-15..Glad I left that place, best thing I ever did for myself! Most of my firearms would be illegal their now...
