Coyote Hunting Gear -- What do you take?

I feel like there was a similar thread a while back, but I can't seem to find it. By all means, if someone can point me to a thread where this has been discussed, I would be appreciative.

As I'm preparing for my first coyote hunt, I am curious what gear everyone else takes with them? I know there will be a range that varies from KISS to packing in a ton of gear, but I'm most interested in the most common components of a coyote hunt "gear loadout." Mainly because I don't want to look like a fool for not having something, or having too much!

Some of the equipment I've purchased includes an ALPS turkey hunting chair and a Primos tripod. I don't yet have any calls, but I'm considering a Foxpro Wildfire at some point.

I'm also curious about bags/packs. I have a Hill People Gear Tarahumara pack that I bought for hiking that is brilliant, but honestly a bit small for anything more than a first aid kit and some bottles of water. I have to admit, a pack like the Eberlestock Gunrunner looks mighty convenient with its integrated scabbard.

So, lets hear it! What are ya'll carrying to your stands?

Before i say anything dont get too absorbed into the gear required to coyote hunt before even going coyote hunting.
What i bring: rifle 222 or 22-250 depending on terrain, bipod, 10 extra shells on shellholder primos powerdog in small shoulder bag, extra batteries, lanyard of hand calls, full winter camo (ghillie jacket, white pants facemask) coyote drag, foam seat.

As a fellow gear junky I will tell you it gets heavy. Sometimes it is nice to bring just a couple calls and the shotgun. Camo is even optional if you tuck into the brush or use the terrain to your advantage.

I carry a rifle w/full magazine on my shoulder and a few extra rounds in my pants pocket. A short turkey seat, e-caller and shooting sticks in my left hand. E-call remote and a couple mouth calls around my neck. A coyote drag in my shirt pocket.

That's it.

My 22-250, 12 guage, foxpro shockwave with 144 sounds, mouthcalls, mojo critter decoy with cutom topper, stoney point bipod, sometimes a ghillie suit, facemask and gloves always, shell holder on gun, extra ammunition, have handwarmers in calling bag, extra batteries just in case however I run the nickel hydright rechargeable, coyote carrier. I believe that's most of it haha.

I mentioned this a few posts ago.

firearm, noise maker(mouth blow or elec), bipod, sometimes a low seat(depending on terrain), (camera sometimes). that is all to make a stand.

in the vehicle there is more.

Just to darn much #$%^ to be comfortable. Made the turn though. Camo, gun, 3 shells in rifle, mouth call, and video camera. Video camera 'stuff' almost breaks the deal these days.

Rifle, sticks, seat, a couple hand calls, electronic call(sometimes), binos, coyote drag, and full camo according to the conditions. I have a small knife on my belt. Im going to start trying to bring the shotgun too. Night time I add some lights and other gear. I try not to bring too much as I like to travel light. Im always trying to thin down my load out.

My style here in Maine is 95% night hunting, "run and gun" style. Its all small private land here. So I call one spot and then jump in the truck and drive to another spot so a lot of gear stays in the truck. I have 4 guns in the truck with all the ammo and the stand will dictate which gun I use, shotgun, rifle, or rimfire. I always wear my Single Six with my custom night sites on my side. What i take to the stand depends on the stand, usually a rifle with shooting light attached. A headlamp, a handheld scanning light, bipod, Foxpro, and lanyard full of calls. With the shotgun its mostly the same minus the bipod.

Gear in the truck:
Spare batteries for the lights and the Foxpro
Spare scanning light
seat cushion
rope drag
ammo
mojo critter decoy
spare mouth calls
snow shoes
some extra clothes

Remington 700 20" tactical bull barrel 223
Leupold VX6 3-18x50 CDS
Coyote Light

Benelli Super Vinci
Carlson Dead Coyote Choke Tube

Modified shooting sticks
Night Eyes Head Light Red
Handheld TLR Coyote Light
Small White Lite
Shockwave w/attached decoy & remote
Hand/Mouth Calls
Wind Dust for direction location
Scent Tubes Rabbit/Coyote pee
Eberlestock X1 backpack
Three leg fold up chair 20" butt height off ground
Ground Seat Pad

I can make any stand any way I want and its maybe 30 lbs tops for everything......I can walk HANDS FREE and that alone makes me personally feel less fatigued then to try and carry just 4 lbs or less in each hand to the stand...........im 46 can walk all day if I had to with this set up while hands free and u can hunt any situation that u walk upon should u be hunting a walkabout style day or night.....BANG BANG!!!!!!

The kitchen sink is about all i don't have with me.

Seriously..
The list of gear that goes, vs. what i take to the stand is long..

Since you are in AZ too;
Shooting sticks with a pivoting head and that extend to 60" In AZ you will want them (sometimes you are sitting in a low profile chiar, stool, and occassionally standing)
Chair that has a back rest and lifts you up about 4" (pads are a bad idea with cactus in the area)
spare bullets and shells, rifle, shotgun, 22lr finishing pistol
knife,
call,
remote, bino's, hand calls, gloves, hat with mask, drag, back pack.

In the truck, i have a cot, sleeping pad, cold weather clothes, cold weather boots, spare camo, camp stove, water, skinning rack, more knives, trash bags, more bullets, shells, emergency food, sleeping bag, spot light, laser pointer, propane torch (its just easier to make a fire with a soldiering torch) come along, bolt cutters, leatherman, wratchet strap, ax, shovel, fire extingusher, solar battery charger, batteries for everything, warm weather gloves, cold weather gloves, snow camo, and a few other things for sure.

My suggestion is that you wait until you have done this a year, and then take the stuff that you have found that you want to haul to the stand. Take the gear to the store, and test the different packs to see what holds your stuff the best. Everyone is different.

If you want to use Bino's,(suggested) don't get a lanyard get an Alaskan Guide bino holder, or make something like that with Military surplus. Then you can put the bino's, range finder, remote, and gloves in that.

Since you are in AZ, i strongly suggest that you carry a shotgun and rifle.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the great info everyone. I was actually curious about how useful a shotgun would be here in AZ since, for the most part it seems, its mostly "wide open" out here. Definitely some food for though, and a shotgun might be in my future when I get my quarterly bonus...

Rifle, 4 handcalls, but pad, critter decoy, shooting sticks, phone for pictures, sometimes rangefinder, sometimes binoculars
I dont really count camo, i mean id be dressed in something anyway

Hmm, this is nice Reid, thanks. I think I might see some of this type setup in my future. I need to transition away from the clunky, sometimes noisy, dove bucket to a better stool/seat, then get going with a nice pakc. I do have an X1A1 already...
