I took my 2.5 year old son coyote hunting with me after a farmer said he lost a couple animals a couple days prior. I wasn't sure how my son would do or if he would spoil the hunt. But I figured I wouldn't know if I didn't try. And I wanted to help the farmer and get out there asap. But I had to watch my son for the evening. So we went for it and we had an amazing time. I'm not sure I could have hoped for a better first hunting trip with my son. Since then he has often been asking when we can go coyote hunting again. It makes me proud to hear him say to people, in a proud 2 year old voice "I go coyote hunting with Daddy!"

Awesome man! Take them early and as much as possible. My little guy has been coming along hunting with me since he was 2.5 too. He’s been on a handful of successful daytime stands. To my surprise, he has not buggered up a single stand.

Good time! Way to go dad. I too have taken mine along since they were very young. They hunted birds and big game with the wife and me before they could even walk. It's never to early to start introducing them to our great outdoors.

Conditioning(learning) to be calm, attentive and able to physically perform outdoors is not easy. And for the most part these skills need to be passed down from old to the young. Internet, books, magazine's are poor substitute teachers. I commend you for starting your son at a young age, I also believe you had a dad's idea about how he would handle a new situation.

This is awesome! Amazing hunt and incredible shooting given the circumstances. Everyone should practice with a 2.5 year old on their shoulders! Lol. I’m incredibly happy for both of you! It’s just the beginning.

Congratulations! He may not remember in 20 years but you'll be able to tell that story for the rest of his life. I'm sure it will be a family favorite.

Awesome! Another thing people don’t do is teach their children that it’s ok to be in the dark. I still remember CJ making an entire group laugh on a coon hunt. We were just standing around waiting to hear the dogs start up and all of a sudden CJ announced very loudly that he had SUPERPOWERS!! He could see in the dark! He started pointing to everyone standing around and calling them by name. There was no moon that night, just starlight. He made me call his momma so he could tell her.
This video is so cool and brings back memories for me!! Thanks for sharing!!

Way to go pop, just don't tell the libs. They will want to put you away for child abuse. You probably have a hunting buddy for life. My wife says I've been in the dark most of my life.

Awesome hunt.

I love the dark. There's a gently swooping ditch out in the field behind my house that stays dry. A lot of times I will go lay back on the bank of the ditch and just watch the stars. On my last coyote hunt a few nights ago I seen three falling stars. Still waiting on that powerball wish.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. We had a great time and it's fun to show others what we did. I took him out again last night, we didn't see any coyotes, but still had a good time.

I've found that night hunting has made me more comfortable in the dark. I actually find it quite refreshing and relaxing to be out after dark now, especially after about 11pm as society quiets down and goes to sleep.

I've also found that not watching movies and shows (any. not just horror ones) makes me more comfortable in the dark. Something about watching movies puts me on edge. I can feel it for weeks after watching a movie. There's definitely some psychological/religious/mental manipulation going on in the film industry. I used to watch a lot of movies. But now I prefer not to. I like to be calm and level-headed and I don't want to feel edgy and jumpy.

Remember the first Paranormal Activity movie? I slept with my Bible under my pillow for six months after I watched that movie.

I never watched the paranormal movies. those would REALLY mess me up. I notice myself getting affected even by "common" movies like starwars, startreck, stargate, avengers, x-men, lord of the rings, batman, diehard, lethal weapon, indianna jones, tomb raider, etc.

I have young kids and I've noticed that even nearly all disney movies have witchcraft, sorcery, demons, spirits, etc in them. I try to carefully guard what they are exposed to having struggled myself with the effects of watching these things.

Be careful what you let them watch on YouTube and such too. A few years ago my ex's twin 5 year olds were watching "my little ponies" on YouTube. I walked by and stopped for a second to look at what they were watching. It was My Little Ponies from wish.com. They had a tranny pony, a goth pony that talked about killing himself. etc. I called their mom in the room and showed her then we blocked the show.

I'm not familiar with that specific show, but it doesn't surprise me. There's a youtube channel I watch sometimes called littlelightstudios that discusses and exposes a lot of the subliminal and blatant messaging in many popular films.

General rule of thumb: spend less time looking at screens and more time in the natural outdoors. Which goes back to one of the reasons I like night hunting so much....much of the artificial sights/smells/noise of modern society shuts off and it is quiet and peaceful under the stars. And I get to help out local farmers with pest control while enjoying my hobby of shooting/hunting. And a recent bonus had been being able to take my kids out with me so that they can experience it and gain an appreciation for it themselves.

See I was the opposite…I wanted to be in the dark to see the ghosts, werewolves, paranormal activities that everyone talked about. I learned young that the darkness is not evil and scary.
With that said, I did learn very young that just because you aren’t afraid of the darkness during the Summer months, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still sometimes use a light! A rattlesnake sounding off in the dark will have you second guessing your decisions, lol.
