Calling Sequence Examples For FoxPro

I'm new to these however I been doing some research and I was wondering what's a good sequence around this time in MO/KS ? is there a difference between sequences during different seasons or is there one that will work all year around on my FoxPro? Any help will be appreciated!

Start out with a couple lone howls. After a few minutes switch to a prey distress. After 10 minutes switch to pup distress. After 15-20 move on if you have a lot of ground to hunt. If you don’t I would extend your length of time to 30-45 minutes

Since you specifically said for FoxPro, they have a podcast on Spotify that I’ve been listening to here lately. In the few episodes I’ve listened to, they go over season by season or month by month about a coyotes life and what calls they use during those times.
I was surprised to hear March is the worst time to call and July is considered the best month.

Spurchaser makes a great point. I listen to the Foxpro podcast and really like the calling sequence discussions.

I have a Foxpro X24. Last season I decided to start programming Foxcast sequence files so I would be able to hit play on a sequence and scan for coyotes continuously instead of looking down at the remote, moving, etc. I don't rely on these pre-programmed sequences all the time but it is handy, especially during an all night hunt...I don't have to think as much when it gets really late. This has been a very productive change. However, I don't use the Foxpro website (FOXPRO Inc. - Your Home for High Performance Game Calls) for building sequence files. I wrote an Excel program that's much easier for me to use and I can save a pdf of all of my sequences for reference. Every month I'll add a few more sequences and I'll usually create files for all of the sequences recommended on the Foxpro podcast. Below is an example sequence from Ep. 38: Breeding Season Coyote Calling 2.0:

I'm still trying to figure out how to build sequence files on my new Foxpro hellcat pro. With no success yet. Hopefully I will get it figured out soon or find someone that can help get a few set up. I guess I just need to sit down a day and spend a little time to get it figured out.🤦😁.

What a great display of generosity by IlliniFan! The time and effort to put this great info together is of tremendous help to old-timers like me who are not tech savvy. Thanks to you for sharing with us and all the others on this forum who make it so worthwhile to join and contribute!

My advice is to not get locked into sequences. Switch it up, makes you more active and attentive IMO in the hunt and what works today might not work again till next year-tehee. A lot of guys (mostly western hunters with good views of their calling grounds) talk about the '3 strikes'. If they don't get a sighting in 3 sets with a certain sound or series of sounds, they change it up. There is a reason for that.

Just listened to Ep. 57 of the FoxPro Podcast on Family Bust Up: .

Torry Cook and Jon Collins both gave their sequence examples for this time of year. Currently building some sequence files to somewhat replicate and was curious about what everyone else typically does for silence time between howls, social sounds, fights, etc. Below are my current sequence drafts:

So many good answers on here already.
The foxpo podcast is a great place to start. Just bear in mind they are trying to push and sell new sounds. If you don't have the specific mfk sound they list don't hesitate to try similar sounds in your arsenal.
As fun as it is to research and try to come up with the perfect sequence there is no magic bullet that will guarantee success. Get out there and see what your coyotes like.

This is really cool. I just bought an X24 caller a couple weeks ago. I'm gonna give this a try. If it will keep me scanning and focused longer than I'll give it a try.

I never have used sequences that change automatically. If I have a coyote headed my way I don't want the sound to stop or change.

For many years I used cassette e-callers that had no remote so I couldn't change the volume or the sound. It was amazing how many coyotes we called in when we only used one sound at a time and only used a total of 2 or 3 sounds in 3 to 4 months time.

I set up my Foxpro remotes so I can quickly get to the first 9 favorite sounds "1 through 9" and last 9 favorite sounds "42 through 50". By having my favorite go to sounds at the beginning and end of the 50 favorite sounds I don't have to look for them very long.

From what I have seen quite often when you stop playing a sound or change the sound the coyote that was headed your way will stop running towards the call.

if you are in an area with a lot of callers and everyone starts using the same sounds / sequences those dogs will get educated quick.

switch it up.

last night we didnt get a reply for almost 30 minutes or longer. we got a reply and about 15 minutes later we spotted them. two came in thru the high grass, we only saw them when they were "jumping" coming to us. we set up for them to come across the cut field but NOOOO, they had their own idea :)

one disappeared on us and one got close enough for me to whack, one is better than none. sometimes it just takes awhile

I'm adding these sounds for this fall, hunting while combines are running in corn fields.
L65 Mr. Cottontail
C42 Coyote yaps
C70 Frantic coyote pup.
Not exactly a sequence, more like mix up c70/42 with the bunny sound. Should mimic what's happening as combines move around rabbits and coyote. Wish my ecaller could run 2 sounds.

I'm wanting to put some sequences on my new MFK X24 I got on the black friday special. Hopefully I can figure it out by trying what's above !!

I guess I’m just getting old. Seems like the new guys want to skip all the trial and error and go right to the success. You’re really missing out on the experience. All the learning curves that you experience when you first start out is what will keep you doing it for 40 years. I remember calling way before all these new electronic callers and sounds and still love to use hand calls to fool them. Trying to figure out what they want is more than half the fun for me.

Good Hunting Chad

I second what Utah said! Learning by trial and error is the best way to learn. all the frustration and disappointment that comes with it. Because atleast for me the stratification that come after is what keeps me going. By no means don’t stop asking questions, taking advice when it’s good. But don’t be scared to get out there and try something new, against the normal. It just might surprise you!
