Calling jackrabbits in.

On my second stand this morning a jackrabbit came in to lightning jack. Came in slowly but homing in on the caller. I had one come in like that near Searchlight NV years ago. Always wondered if it is curiosity or actually came to help. Deer will come in all bent out of shape looking to stomp something and roadrunners come in looking for a snack.

I've had it happen before. Very interesting to say the least.
Saw my first jack rabbit in years this morning. Only one in 15 miles of 2 track . Dryer than a popcorn fart for to long down here.
Even the small game guzzler was plum dry today.

Never had a rabbit come to the call, but maybe someone can answer this. Years ago, my uncle was sitting on the ground calling coyotes with a mouth call (rabbit distress) and spotted a 6' rattlesnake crawling toward him at what he described as a "very fast pace". He believes it was coming to the call. What say you?

Have had a lot of critters come to the call, however, some I believe out of curiosity others probably to assist another animal in distress. Seems that many species of antelope and, of course deer will respond to fawn distress calls. Have also had Scimitar horned Oryx come to fawn distress but no picture.

Even had a wildebeest bull (arrow) lead his herd to investigate a rabbit distress call (circled) and milled around nervously a while after the call was silenced. Had to wait a few minutes until they left to recover the call. I believe they were just curious.

I’ve not ever called in a Jack rabbit. But when night calling I’ve seen some within 150 yards and they seemed unconcerned that their relative was being tortured and eaten alive.
