Anyone here participate in a calling contest this past week, in Jetmore Kansas? I did not, but a friend did. He told me one team of 2 or 3 guys killed 77 coyotes. Im VERY skeptical of that number. It was a Friday evening till Sunday afternoon event.
I didn’t but had a friend that got in it. He said 4-5 other teams killed in the 30s. Hard to believe they doubled them up . I’ve had about 8 calls today asking what I thought and everybody agreed that it’s fishy.
My buddy was in it. He sent me a picture of the pile they brought in. It was a pretty obvious difference. He said when they announced who killed the most coyotes you could hear a mouse pissin on cotton.
It was a two day hunt, night and day. I guess it's possible. Nathan Spencer and his team killed 63 in 24 hours during the West Texas Big Bobcat a few years back. Pretty sure he killed 40 during the same hunt last weekend.
The team that brought in 77 coyotes are from Nebraska. They must have more coyotes in Nebraska than they know what to do with. Correction......used to have. I ain't even seen 77 jackrabbits in a years time. I bet a rabbit don't even sneeze up there without fear of being eaten.
If they legit called and killed that many, they're gonna need to look for some new huntin ground. Any coyote that's left is gonna take up meowing instead of howling after that ordeal.
Some of those guys may hunt 50,000 acres in a 24 hour period, maybe more. They are calling, but may be calling while the trucks are rolling with shooters on the high rack with thermals.
They are not spending 15 minutes on stand most of the time.
Here in ND I have seen teams go over 20 in a daytime hunt and go into the 30s for 24-hour hunts. It's not far fetched but those guys would have had to be grinding it out for 2 straight days.
