Saturday was our big coyote contest. Weather changed from-32c to -2c. Still a lot more f snow to deal with and as the day warmed up it was nearly impossible to keep on top.
1st set of the day brought a double in on a little slough nestled in the spruce. Killed the male but his mate escaped.
Had a couple dry sets then managed to convince this male to take a look out of his forest domain. He didn’t like something he seen and started to retreat but made the fatal flaw of one last look back. 200 yards was not a challenge for my 6CM.
The remainder of the day involved a lot of hiking with no rewards. But a trip into a frozen lake on new ground produced 4 coyotes charging the caller. After all the chaos and shooting was over there was 1 less coyote headed back to the trees.
That was our tally for the day. Heaviest was 28 lb. A 33lb coyote took home the cash winning. Still was a good day getting out after the dirty cold we’ve been under and burning some gun powder.
