Back to the Well

With the wind finally laying down, it was time to get back out there.

30 degrees with 50 % humidity, the views were spectacular through the thermals.

Winds were light out of the west, perfect for my favorite spot. It had been 3 weeks since the last time there, so it was time.

Here's the daytime view again of the setup.

I started with several female invitation howls spread out over 5-6 minutes, then into the bunny blues.

It only took 5 minutes for this gal to show at the very top of the hill in the upper right of the pic. As she started down the hill, I nuked the caller.

Once she got to the bottom & hesitated, I turned on a low squeaker for a few seconds that got her motivated again.

She took a step as I shot, & hit her midship, didn't go far though, where she went out of sight is where she piled up.

6x6.8 SPC, 70 Ballistic Tips at 3200 strike again.

Great job, have you tried any 55 gr out of the 6x6.8? Who is the barrel maker?
Thanks, it's a 20" X-caliber 10" twist barrel.

For some reason, I never did try any 55's, despite having a bunch.

I concentrated on the 70 BT's & 70 Blitzkings, but did try 65 Berger & Vmax.

Eventually I did a shoot off between the 70's & the BT's won.

I have had nothing but great results with those, so I'm staying put.....for now.....;)

Well done Alf. Sure would like to use an ar-10 in .243, law only allows .22cal, so 60gr. in 22x6.8 & ,22dti.
Thanks, I'm a big fan of the 22 DTI, I consider mine my #1 for night time coyotes.

52 Bergers at 3550 is a formidable force.

I would hate to have to pick between that & the 6x6.8, but I could slum either if push came to shove.

If starting from scratch, I'd seriously look at the 22 ARC with a short freebore & 12" twist.
