Since we finally have some cooler weather I decided to go hunting last night.
Stand 1.
I set up facing North on the edge of a cut corn field, wood line to the East and West, a low finger that come out into the field directly in front of me. The farmer hasn't done anything to the field since he harvested the corn so a lot of the field has knee high waste corn. Put the call out about 50 yards in front of me facing Westward towards the wood line. The wind was coming out the North, so directly in my face. Started off with some Mrs. Cottontail. Within the first three minutes I picked up a coyote directly in front of me coming out of the finger pretty hard. Picked him up in the scope and waiting until he stopped. Took the shot about 75-100 yards. Bang, flop.
Decided to just keep running the call. Less than ten minutes later I look to my left and where was a coyote running away from my down the edge of the wood line. I guess it came out and was so close that it seen me in the bright moon. It took off across the field, couldn't get a shot.
Changed things up a bit and played a few vocals, a pack went off in the wood line to the Northwest. Tried a few more vocals, but they wouldn't come out of the woods. Switched the call to DenRaid and within two minutes the female came down the same path as the male. Followed her in the scope until she stopped for a shot. Bang/flop. Decided to pack up and leave the others alone.
This first picture is exactly how I found the pair in the field. I didn't touch them. I didn't realize that the last time the female stopped she was standing right beside the male.
Male - 34.84lbs
Female - 26.92lbs
