A Few More Coyotes

He shoots a 22-250 AI with 75 grain ELD-M around 3,350 fps and my 22 Creed with 62 gr. ELD-VT is around 3,580 fps...I usually joke that my bullet got there first.
🤣 My son came down a while back to go nilgai hunting and, as usual brought his 416 Rem Mag. He hunts everything with that rifle and has thorough confidence in it. After hunting nilgai, we had time for a few coyote stands. I always tease him about having enough rifle for the job at hand. We set up in one of my favorite outside corners of the ranch where there are several fence crossings that usually produce a coyote. We have an understanding, the first one to get crosshairs on fur takes the shot. I pointed out the crossings to him and fired up the call. I had my rifle on sticks pointed at the first crossing and assumed my son was doing likewise since I had clued him in on the game plan. Fence has enough brush on it you cannot see through it so there is little to no warning when a coyote is coming until it pokes his nose under the wire, and they are usually running to the call full tilt.

Our shots sounded simultaneously, but i saw my son's bullet hit the dirt berm right behind where the coyote had been just a milisecond before my 55 gr. NBT had tipped him over. I kid him today about that lumbering 400 gr. bullet loafing along at 2400 fps was just no match for the little NBT @ 3140 fps. 🤣
