A couple from last night, my first running hit

A bitter sweet night. I missed the first chip shot somehow, see if you can figure it out. I didn't get a follow up on the runner, I went to squeeze but hadn't released the trigger to reset lol.

The next set, we were about to give up, when my partner went to pick up the call I saw a 500 yds peeker, and there ended up being two. Neither would come in but one started circling so we picked up and circled him. Got within 200 yds and did the 3 2 1 count and double tapped. The length of the video is due to us getting coordinated before the shot.

This last stand we had one come in great from probably 800 yds, but for most of it he had dropped into a cut and popped out close, surprising us. I had him dead to rights but hadn't flipped the safety on the first opportunity, then got him stopped and rushed and whiffed completely. Got him down on the running shot but couldn't finish before he got out of sight, we beelined over there but he disappeared completely despite searching every dip and gully for 20 or 30 minutes. He had to have gotten under a clump or in a badger hole or something. Went from elated to bummed lol. I'm not sure whether to say the whole night was a success or failure to be honest lol.

Looking at it slowed down it's obvious I missed just left. Dang that's a bummer, should have been more patient for a broadside shot.

Was going to say it looked like it went left, Russ. You're not left handed are you? I can't slow the video down, but I think I caught a movement to left just as the shot broke. Watch in slo mo and see if that's not what happened. I am right handed and any time I get a bit aggressive on the trigger the shot will be low right.

I find if I miss like that Iā€™m not squaring up the rifle buttpad properly on my chest and not putting enough pressure on the rifle/loading the tripod and or locking my tripod head down enough before squeezing the trigger.

BUT you had action! A good night in my book that yes, could have had a better outcome. If it was warm I feel certain you could find the runner with your nose in a couple days. As for the chipper-yep you whiffed itšŸ˜ž like we all have.

Yeah in slow mo, I split his hairs on the left side. I'm right handed but find I miss more left than anything. In all fairness to me, it was pretty breezy and it's hard to stay steady while standing and shooting off a tripod. Locking the leveling bowl does help but also takes time and sometimes that will cost you also.

I never did learn how to shoot bipod on a rifle or even try a tripod but I believe rifle did move left at the shot, illiniFan may be on to something. Pulling rifle up tight to shoulder in offhand or position shooting and w/sticks is essential in shot placement and I know loading a bipod is as well. Might be something to concentrate on.
