7mag nose tag! Last night's rain forced me to postpone hunting, but Cason suggested an alternative spot at 9:30 a.m. this morning. Following setup, I positioned the call on a hillside to my left. Cason promptly spotted a coyote on an adjacent hill. We observed and guided it in with additional calls. Briefly visible, the coyote circled downwind. Repositioning my tripod while seated, it emerged behind my left shoulder, requiring a shot around the barn's corner. Successfully doubling tapping the target, it dropped, accompanied by blood streaming down my nose due to misaligned scope positioning, resulting in a half-moon imprint. Cason burst into uncontrollable laughter, capping an unforgettable hunt.

Had a now ex brother in-law scope himself not once but twice with a light weight 7mmrm. Once while sighting in and again a few months later on an antelope hunt. All I could do to keep from busting up.

Haha, my son was about 12 or 13 at the time and wanted to shoot the .300RUM while deer hunting.
He had climbed down the stand to use the bathroom when a group of does came up. In the kneeling position he fired off 3 shots so quick that I thought there’s no way that’s him because he’s shooting a bolt action.
When neither my wife or I could reach him on the phone we loaded up and headed his direction.
We found him on his back, face covered in blood, and basically passed out. I thought he’d been shot, but after a quick assessment I realized he’d been scope “bit” twice!! When he came to, he explained what happened and where the deer were when he shot!
First shot dropped a doe and no harm to him. When the others ran a little he swung the rifle and as he shot the second doe got scope bit the first time. With the shock and blood now pouring he looked back through the scope and thought he’d missed because he saw a deer standing there and shot again. This “bite” was even worse and knocked him backwards.
Instead of two deer down, I found three deer down, lol! Despite getting bit, he didn’t miss after all. That was the last time he ever used that gun and I sold it shortly afterwards. It was way too much fun for our Whitetails, lol.

That was a good story ! It’s been over 30 years since I have got bit!

And there are those that claim my 243 is overkill on coyotes :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :giggle:
When I was a teen, my first deer rifle was a 243. There was an older gentleman (40s maybe at the time) that I hung around with (acquainted from church). Tall lanky fella. We went shooting one day and I let him shoot my 243. He scoped himself pretty good that day. Long arms and neck and shooting a gun set up for a much smaller kid (shorter LOP) didn't mix. I laughed then too.

I have never been ringed by a scope shooting scoped 12 gauge slug guns, 30-06, 308 etc. When NY made centerfire rifles legal for night hunting I jumped on the Ruger 204 wagon due to needing a sub 22 caliber to be legal in some units. Zero recoil and I shoot it in a very relaxed manner. Last year I decided to jump up to a 243. Got it all sighted in without any issues at the range. Shot it off the tripod without any issues at the range. First time out calling with it, a coyote rolls in and I guess it was just muscle memory from shooting the 204 for so long, but when I pulled the trigger on the Tikka 243, the scope juuuust kissed my eyebrow! Like maybe the Mike Tyson of butterflies or something! Lol… I shot that coyote dead, and learned immediately that a 243 pushes back just a tad more than a 204. Hasn’t happened since, and I dare say it won’t happen again. I have found a new muscle memory!
