6x47(222mag) Coyote Load

Hi everyone!

I picked up a Remington 700 with a custom barrel in 6x47 and am looking for a coyote hunting load. Would anyone have any experience with the 6x47 here? If so please help with powders and bullet combinations. I was thinking of trying 65g Hornady and 27g of H422.

The Rifle came from Maine and the custom barrel has "DB Cody" on it. the guy I got it from said that he got it from an estate sale.
Any information on the rifle would be nice also.

Thanks KyCoyKlr

I am not familiar with H422 canister powder. There is a bulk powder by that name.....not seen it for years.

If you mean H4227, that would be a mighty stiff charge. I would think a slower powder would be more appropriate. Say H-322 or N-135.

OOPS! sorry about that. H322 is the powder I was meaning.
Typo
Thanks for the responses. I just loaded up 27g of h322 and the 65 vmax. I had been shooting 26.8 in another 6x47 of mine with some good groups.

How did the 65 grain vmax work on Coyote?????

i have a custom contender barrel in 6x47. 17 5/8" long n shot as a handgun. i killed one coyote with it so far(a target of opportunity at 150+yrds from my picnic table). a sierra 75gr hp at around 2800fps with varget is great, accuracy wise, and did the dog fine as well.

Thanks again guys!

I was curious as to what kind of brass you are using? Also how close to the lands are you shooting the 65 grain Hornadys and what kind of velocity you are getting from 27g of H322?

Sorry for all the questions, I figure the more I learn from you guys, the less i will have to learn the hard way.

If I had an option other than Remington brass I'd use it, but the .222 Rem mag from Remington is the only option.

Don't remember what velocities I'm running, I'll take a look at my data book tonight. I load everything to spec since I'm running i mini Mauser action and I already have problems with COAL being too long.

i use rem 204 ruger brass in my contender 6x47(made by OTT aka "on target technologies"). necked up and shoulder pushed back in the rcbs 6x47 full length size die with a tapered expander. i would imagine other brands of 204 brass should work as well, although my chamber is custom.
H335 is another powder with load potential.

it did here. just as simple, just as easy. if i remember right, i changed the expander button to a tapered one first. i don't think it was already in there....lol.

6x47 Remington / Match is a blast to tinker with,
I just wish I had built mine lighter weight were
I could use it more.
This will make your mouth water.....232 new match cases left over from the 70's

Several 6x47 targets from a few yeas back. The two 200 yard target were back to back.
The hunting load is on the left....27.5gr H322 and 58gr V-max

All of this brass is new and I have to turn the necks on it before I can use it.
My rifle is .268 neck the same as Remington 222 Mag brass after resizing, but the
Federal brass is nickle coated and is .273 which wont even chamber.
I also bought 300 rounds of used brass and it had the necks already turned. In that
batch there was maybe 10% that had rim damage but the rest is what I have been
shooting since I finshed the rifle several years ago.
All of that new brass was bought on Ebay for a song as well as several set of dies
for 6x47 Match. I picked the ones I wanted and sold the rest.
The used brass came from the old Extreme Accuracy web-site.
You can still get some great deals and make astonishing finds for this caliber if
you just watch around awhile.
Good luck with the 6x47.....I think you'll enjoy it.
