6DTI vs 6mm arc

Have a friend trying to decide between the two and need your guys help.

which of these two are better for all around package for hunting?

I'm going to go with the ARC because it's a factory loaded cartridge which means you can find ammo a lot easier. There 3-4 different rifle manufactures that make bolt actions for it and tons of AR's for it.

If he is looking to shoot 55 to 70ish grain bullets and he reloads 6dti hands down. He can get a bit slower twist rate and a chamber actually designed for varmint weight bullets vs long high bc stuff. Not to mention the 6dti should have the potential for more speed. The smaller case head allows for more material to be left in the bolt making it stronger. I would bank on 6.8 spc brass being more available as well.

If he wants to shoot factory ammo 6ARC is the way to go. If he reloads then the world is his oyster, he can get either. How far are the shots, does he want to keep hides, etc? Answering these questions would help him select the correct cartridge.

The 6dti (basically the same as 6x6.8 spc) smokes the 6arc for varmint to medium game but you will have to reload.

If you dont plan on hunting much and plan more on target shooting and need factory ammo then 6arc is the only choice.

I personally have a 6DTI and it loves 70 grain blitzkings, it flat anchors coyotes

My buddy doesn’t reload and is on the fence about getting into it and buying something he has to reload for vs going to store and buying ammo

What does the 6dti do better than the arc? Honest question, I'm not familiar with the round. Don't waste your time telling me that there is something wrong with the arc, I've shot thousands upon thousands of rounds and never had a bolt face break or a single feeding issue, so that's not a real problem unless you're buying junk parts. Is there an actual performance gain over the arc?

"Better" is subjective.

I'm going to assume AR? Depends also if he wants instant gratification or not.

Since he doesn't reload yet, & wants it now, I'd go ARC.

Talking deer & 500 yards, he'll need the quick twists & bigger bullets, ARC again.

I've had three ARC's & two 6 Hagars, sold them all & now shoot a 6x6.8 SPC, 10" twist for 70's, no deer or 600 yard shots on the menu, & no plans to hunt it in the daytime.

I would do the 6x6.8 before the DTI due to off the shelf dies.

X-Caliber just started their 20% off sales, great place to start for building something.

Yes the 6x6.8 is even simpler than the 6dti. Ive got both and its splitting hairs. I think it comes down to who does the best chamber job. Cant see picking one up over my 6 Hagars though.
However effective killing at 500 yards is gonna require some case capacity.
