#4 or #2 Tss choke tube?

I’m setting up my Benelli Nova for a 40-50 yard coyote gun. Right now I’m using Federal 4 buck 2 3/4 with a Patternmaster Anaconda choke. I want to try some 3” # 4 or #2 tss but I’m not sure where to start on choke tubes to see what patterns best. What brand and constriction would y’all suggest? Thank you.

Let me know if you need some help, I’ve got a partnership with an ammo company that loads TSS, I’m currently shooting 3” - #2s. And also on staff with Carlsons choke tubes.

For #2-#4 my best patterns at 50 have came from an Improved Modified, and a Factory full.

I’m the type that wants the tightest pattern I can squeeze out of one. Much tighter than a Factory Full with a #2 TSS, and you’re asking for it. I blew a .665 Turkey choke out the end of mine. The shot bridged together. I shot that choke with Hornady BB no problem at all, but they’re not even in the same conversation as these TSS.

No biggie shooting plated BB or 4buck out of a turkey choke. TSS heck NO !
That stuff is hard as hard can be.

Loose some threads ?

Right you are. It’s not if, it’s when. If you choke down that bigger sized TSS shot, sooner or later it absolutely will bridge.. and you absolutely will turn your choke tube into a slug round.

This one was in my chicken coop the other night, right at last light. It got out and go into the pasture, just far enough I could barely make it out. So I pulled up and shot, seen it crumple. What I thought was about 40-45 yards, turned out to be 66 steps. Factory full, 3” - #2. Had 16 pellets on the carcass after skinning.

TSS shot patterns very tight so I use a Carlson Extended Modified choke with all of my TSS coyote loads. I have used TSS #2, #3 and #4 shot and I like the pellet counts of TSS #3 and #4 shot more than I like TSS #2 shot.

My TSS #3 and #4 shot loads have around 100 to 120 pellets per each 1-1/2 oz load so there are plenty of pellets hitting the coyotes with a Modified choke.

I use the same most of the time. I run a Carlsons Extended, Imp. Modified and shoot the #2s. I’m sure 3s and 4s are just as great. These #2s are just what this company I partnered with sent me first, and have worked so well I’ve never had any reason to change. Many have died this/last year at a ranged 55-65 yards. Sure do love this stuff. Glad you’re having success too!

Try a kicks gobbling thunder .680. I get 6 pellets in a 5” circle at 60 yards with #4 buck using a 3” Remington and Winchester 41 pellet factory load. The .670 shoots just as tight with 1 7/8 oz discontinued wingshot lead BB. I use the beretta benelli mobile tubes probably the same as you threads. Go under the shotgun pattern threads here and check out the photos of patterns And tubes used,

I purchased some #4 TSS. Plan to shoot them in my my nova pump. I’ve heard both full or modified be good. Anyone else have input? I know you should test but with the price of those tss loads I hate
To do too much testing haha

You’ll be fine with a factory full, if you want to try an Extra full it wouldn’t hurt a thing either with those #4s. You get into the 3s and 2s I wouldn’t recommend going very tight.

Patterned it with extra full and pattern had a few holes in it,the full had more uniform coverage in my gun which is a Stoeger M3000,so a little more info added

Ok Thankyou. Yea I have factory modified and full. I also have a TSS Turkey choke .640. But I imagine that’s too tight to use
Yeah that’s getting to the point of tonight. A good ported .665 might be alright but that’d probably be the tightest I’d push it. I’d imagine even at .665 you’re going to start seeing a lot of voids. @Terry Lightle is right, either way a good full or extended full, you’ll have PLENTY of range. Ranges that you won’t believe till you’ve seen it for yourself.

Rather than speaking in choke size, it's more useful and relevant to speak in terms of constriction. Not all 12 gauge shotguns have the same bore size. So, say a .670 choke, is going to provide more constriction on some makes than others. If I say a .670 works best for me, it's not as useful information as saying I'm using .055 constriction. Or being specific about the shotgun model and bore size I'm using a .670 choke on.

Big giant TSS possibly, but with #2 and smaller no. Most turkey hunters are shooting extremely tight chokes with it. You wont want that for coyotes anyways, you want some pattern. I would not be surprised if modified was even too tight for 40yd yotin. I shoot cylinder for bird hunting with tss to 40yds....

Exactly, the dia means nothing unless both are shooting the same gun. A 670 in a rem is a whole lot different than a 670 in a winchester.
