This is a long vid so get some popcorn and also the first time I have posted in the 'East" section-have always posted in the 'Night Calling section'
Last week I answered a post saying the longest string of successful sets I ever had was 1. Well, last night I did better. Made 3 sets and all were killers.
Drove to the equipment shed in the saddle of the ridge and when I got out, I could hear a pr/group far to my N on the next ridge to my W. As I am getting dressed and my gear out of the suv some others answer 6-800y N on my ridge and that is where I was going anyhow. After climbing the next knob and trying to decide the best place to be, I start with the call 50yds to my N (12:00) and a NE wind. Nada to the low stuff. Next some howls and they answer but have gone further N. More howls by me and the call, then silence. Awhile later a howl comes from the hollow at my 9;00 a couple hundred away and in the woods. I gotta move about 15-20 yds to see better. I whined a couple times and went quiet. About 10min later I see 2 coming. they change course and head S! I hit the coax button. They can't hear it at 100-125 so I ramp it up until they do. Here they come. I mute when they get close enough. They keep coming, I bark and the lead dies. Adult female, 80yds 35min into set. Can't get the 3 legged one stopped.
It or another starts barking about 5 min later from the hollow, so I start a conversation for about 10 min then silence. I am about to break set 15min later when a pr/group open up a few hundred N of me over the next knob. Now I gotta stay. I answer with a single bark and howl then run a lone pup howl sequence. Quiet next. Concentrating too much to the N I let #2 get all the way to where #1 is laying before I see it. DRT, 34min after #1 died. Adult blonde male. This has all its legs so was not the one with #1. Stayed 30 more min with nothing else heard or seen.
Next, I took the 360-degree video of this set to let you flat landers know what we NE fellas look at and hike to hunt. The description cut short- the second ridge beyond the house is 1.28 miles away. All distances per onx.
On the way back to the car, I decide to scan a spot and see what I think is a k9. I duck down, get the gun in the tripod and the legs shortened for me to sit on the ground then crawled over the rise and down the hill so I wouldn't be skylined. Get stuff set and my crosshairs say it is a coyote at 300ish. I opened up with the rabbit screamer and as the vid shows it took a few breaths to get her to commit. YOY fem at 115y about 7min.
Next place is across the main hollow to my E behind the house in the video. This meadow goes over the crest about 100y then meets a very thick, overgrown woods to the E and N, and open timber to the S. Iffy, but I decide to set on the N end to look into the 'bowl' of the meadow because of the 'broomgrass'. Well, this guy comes on a mission from the open woods and dies at about 8min. YOY m 125yds. No pic cause I put my phone on charge in the car and forgot to take it off.
