I kept a guy from blowing himself up with a .17 Mach IV with a cleaning rod in the bore. He had stuck a bullet in the leade, and dumped powder in the action. He knocked the bullet out with a cleaning rod, and then set about cleaning the spilled powder out of the receiver. He then sat back down, chambered a round and closed the bolt. I saw the rod handle hanging out of the barrel and promptly reached over and opened the bolt on his rifle. He was PISSED that I had done that. At that point I told him without any mercy to get his shit packed up and go home because he was completely out of control. One is required to use ones brain when dealing with firearms.
