I have trapped quite a bit around cattle. I've had sprung traps but I've not ever wondered if it were a cow or calf that set them off so to that effect I can't speak. Most, if not all of my traps have had extra coils added to them. I imagine they would hold a calf as my dad caught a doe antelope once with the same setup I use that needed to be released. All of my sets are staked, I have personally never used drags. When setting around cattle, I'm very intentional about where I make my set finding spots that cattle are highly unlikely to traverse through. Although a cow may try to avoid it, a coyote won't think twice about walking a few feet off the trail to a yucca pocket or small washout to investigate a set.
