2nd weekend of thermals and 20 more!

I have never had a year start like this but hunted the new moon again 11/1 and 11/2 and ended up with another 20 coyotes.

Friday night we hammered 16! Some stands went for an hour with dogs continuing to come to the caller so we just kept stacking! We had one stand where 11 or 12 (i forget) showed up and we shot at 7 and got 5. I shot one that was sniffing a dead one that I shot 5 minutes prior! Crazy hunting! We had several stands where 10-12 coyotes would come in. Not all of them in range but we put eyes on sooo many coyotes it was hard to believe. Even had one stand that I rarely even pull a coyote out of , though we see them all the time , and we smacked 4 that night. Saturday night the wind was fierce and about blowing tripods over and we only had shooting on one stand but got 4 of the 9 that showed up.

The first weekend the only real luck was with prey distress calls. Last weekend they started talking…gotta love that! I was thinking about changing things up and setting the 22-250 aside just for the hell of it but thinking now I better not fix what ain’t broke!

As good as things were there was a set or two where we were shown we weren’t as good as we were starting to think! Haha! We reaffirmed a few things while we were at it also.

…Big rifles still don’t put them down if you don’t hit em right.

…Just when you think you have a call sequence figured out that works , it all of the sudden doesn’t.

…And even though its so dark you can’t see your buddy 5’ away , you still can’t fool a coyote’s nose!

Nice going, I figure I have a damn good night if I can call one in & kill it.
Thanks! I saw your video you just posted of that double…that was damn good n then some! Im running a bolt gun and can clean up a runner for a double once in a blue moon but they are mostly warning shots! The last couple of seasons we’ve quit shooting after the initial volley and the other dogs run a little ways and then stop to look back more often. I stand a better chance at multiples with a still coyote at 300+ than a runner at 100!

What is considered a good season for hunters in the eastern states? I know my recent numbers aren’t typical for here either but we don’t have to work very hard to rack up 100. We were double that last year fall through April.

I can’t speak for all of the East but down here we don’t have public land to hunt on at night. Basically all private and how many properties you can get and then they have to have coyotes, lol.

My buddies and I dropped 130 confirmed dog's plus a few fox last season in NY state.
We hunted hard, not just weekends.
That was the most ever in a season and I can say it was because they finally bought thermal monos and scopes after years of me bitching at them and we got permission to hunt properties that were dog sanctuaries before livestock were harassed by coyote.
Usually we drop 50+ a year.
We're seeing a lot more small game in those areas.

I have never got 50 in a year but years since thermal, over 40 except '23 and 37 then. With lights I got 6-10 yearly.
