222.Rem ?

How many regularly use a 222.Rem for hunting coyotes.and what are your thoughts on it.

I regularly use a 222 Rem, I have three setup for calling coyotes, Rem 788 Sightron S1 1.75-5x32, Sako Mannlicher Vixen Leupold Compact 2-7x30-ish and a Valmet 12ga/222 Rem Leupold Freedom 1.5-4x20. All but the Valmet (new addition) have killed called coyotes just fine, the little Sako in multiple states.from.WA.to.NM.. The Rem is replacing a Model 70 222 Rem that was sold and the Valmet replacing a Marrochi (American Arms) combo that was sold. I've killed a lot of coyotes with the 222.Rem.

Phil Gastomski(spl) an old time coyote hunter from eastern OR favored a Browning LVA in 222 Rem.

So what are your experiences with the 222.R ?

I have one Rem 700 222, custom barrel and McMillan stock. I do not use it often, but when I do, it’s quite effective. My kills with it have been under 200 yards. I use my hand loads with 40 grain ballistic tips. The reason I don’t use it a lot is that I have quite a few calling rifles and prefer the 22/250 or 220 swift for the extra range they provide.

Funny our Walmart in town just got in 5 boxes and two are gone. Grafs have 11 different loadings "In Stock" and a couple "out of stock".

I use 52 gr Speer HP Varmint bullets in mine for coyotes, reasonable dose of 2230.

I love my 222 though it has recently been put aside as backup gun in favor of speedier options.

I had a Remington 788 in 222 that was a great rifle. As usual it went away in a trade for something I can't even remember. Some of my brain farts are epic.

I built a custom .222 Remington a couple years ago, and it has been my go to rifle ever since. I'm shooting 40 grain Nosler polymer tip varmageddon bullets out of it. Puts coyotes down like any of the other 22 centerfires I have shot them with. I have shot a couple coyotes just over 300 with it and put them down right there. Most everything else has been inside 200 yards and gone right down. Really love the triple deuce. It's probably my favorite caliber. I built my rifle with a little weight to it, so there is no recoil and I can watch impacts through the scope.

I have a savage that I put a 222 9 twist barrel on and used for fox but did kill a couple coyotes with it and it did just fine. Nosler 40's or 50 gr vmax work well.
