Here lately I haven’t been feeling well. However, I was tired of laying around and decided to go and see if I could get first blood with the new 22 CM build using the 62gr ELD-VT bullet. I typically walk 1-6 miles to my stands but not feeling well, the first stand was about ½ mile from the truck on 12/31/24 @ 11:30 PM which ended up being a bust. I could hear coyotes howling in the distance, so I went back to the truck and drove to where I thought they were (near a pipeline). Walked about 300 yds in on the pipeline and set up the call 100 yds behind me with the wind in my face on 01/01/2025 @ 12:50 AM. Started with a rabbit distress for two minutes, then muted the call and waited for five minutes. I then played a female coyote invite howl and was scanning with the monocular and caught a glimpse of something moving in the woods behind me (not the direction I thought they would come from), so I swung the gun around and didn’t see anything. I muted the call for a few minutes, then switched to MFK Roo pup fight and, a big male coyote popped out of the woods at 62 yards and the 22 CM hammered him (DRT) as the ELD-VT estimated velocity impact was around 3474 FPS.
I decided to end the night on a positive note and drove home.
Between not feeling well and a split-second decision, I forgot to hit record button on the thermal, but did take pictures.
