I had three coyotes on the bait the other night and I wasn't there. Wouldn't you know it. However, all is not lost. I hunted last night and got one of the three - a male at 80 yards. Broadside shot, very small exit, maybe the size of a penny or nickel. The blood spot on the offside looks larger than the exit was. The exit was tiny, and still amazing from a 25-06. As usual, I used the 70 gr. Blitz King that really anchors them.

Good job, David.
Strange things happen sometimes. My partner and I were deer hunting a few years ago, so we both were carrying our deer rifles when we got bored and decided to make a stand or two. We were sitting back to back at a crossroad of two 2 tracks when he whispered coyote. I eased around to see a coyote coming to the call on one of the two roadways he was covering, about 300 yards out, and watched the coyote trotting towards us with his mouth open and tongue hanging out.
When it got a hundred yards or so out, we barked but he kept coming, so partner shot and dropped him on the spot. Partner was shooting a 30-06 loaded with either 150 or 165 gr. Nosler partitons. When we checked the coyote there was no sign of either entrance or exit. We did not do a necropsy, but only plausible explanation is entry through the mouth and bullet probably lodged in the spine somewhere.

Similar to hm1996’s experience I once shot a fox and dropped it instantly. I roped it and started back to my truck only to have it start jumping around lol. Couldn’t figure out what was happening so I had to put another bullet into it. Only thing I could figure was the first shot grazed its head knocking out but not killing it.
