A couple more from the weekend

It was a pretty slow weekend, we traveled to the in-laws to celebrate Christmas and they wanted to take me out and try a couple spots. It started out rough as I was pinning my 243 together, dropped the lower and broke the pivot pin. They are 1/4 inch so we stuck a bolt through it and carried on lol. Friday the fog rolled in right at dark and it was tough sledding! We only made one stand, nothing came in close enough to see, best I could tell my 640 would only make out anything maybe to 200 yards. But there was one mouthing off within a quarter mile by my estimation so I told my f in l that I was going to go kill it. He stayed back but I should have taken him along because it ended up working out. This was a good sized female and I felt like I earned it lol.

Saturday night was good visibility and out of 3 stands we got a bunch of coons looking, counted 10 on a brush pile. I did call in a coyote to 268 yds where it sat down in the grass, only showing it's head. I ran through a couple sounds and it got up and headed out. I tried a 398 yd shot and missed. I should have tried it's head at 268 lol. It ended up as rough as it started Friday, as after the last stand I left the Revolt sitting on the truck flatbed and we had to backtrack and find it on the side of the road, busted antenna, lost the battery door, luckily found the battery pack and got it put back together. Fixed the antenna and it seems to work ok.

So got back home Sunday and wanted to get back out to some of my normal spots which are getting a bit worn out by this time of year. Three stands and it was looking like I was getting skunked again. The last stand I hung out for almost an hour because the stand before I got a group to howl back from this area and I knew something was around. I had the rifle off the tripod and was making my last quick stand and spotted this one that had been coming in to my last ditch hand calling. I'm going to have to do more hand calling as I've gotten two pretty call shy coyotes that way in the last week.

You might have noticed that last one limping, it was a tripod.

Too bad about your call, Russ. Don't know how you keep up w/all the gear at night; I have enough trouble in broad daylight. :ROFLMAO:
