possums

Possums are nest raiders as well and I get the same amount of money for them as I do coons, so they both go.
Possums don’t eat ticks like people think, the nesting birds they destroy eat more than any possum ever could. The poor possum was covered in ticks and they stuck it in a cage and to survive it ate most of the ticks off itself. People can manipulate any bit of data to get the outcome they want.
Yes, I will shoot a possum in a heartbeat and trap them as well. We always joke down here after you make your best coyote set that a dang possum or bobcat will clog it up before a coyote ever gets to it.

We have a ton of possums, skunks and raccoons here in mid-Michigan. When I am driving to my hunting properties and in the fields I will see 3-4 possums and skunks without fail. Maybe just 1 or 2 raccoons as they seem to be more skittish.
I've definitely heard that possums eat lots of ticks and the study was very flawed. They put a possum in a cage and put a set amount ticks into the cage. They then did a count of the ticks after a set amount of time. Afterwards they assumed that all the missing ticks must have been eaten; obviously a flawed assumption.

Possums are actually pretty social. Everything want to eat possum, and owls and cats get majority of the babies once they start to roam around exploring . I get possums around the house and once they know you not going to kill and eat them, they get friendly and recognize you by Face. You can hand feed them. will come right up to my back door and beg for food. They like plain dry catfood, but love hotdoogs, melon and fruit . Skunks are 'REAL' social also, and I rub, scratch some locals for generations of Litters born around my house.
