I finally joined my old man for a prairie dog shoot in North Dakota last weekend. We hooked up with a buddy of mine who lives out there and knew of several dog towns.
The weather was beautiful and it was a great opportunity to test out my Rock River ATH and some reloads. The first afternoon was a bit disappointing because I missed a number of prairie dogs. Days 2 & 3 I carried a pack in for a rear rest, which improved my accuracy a lot. I had 1 light primer strike out of 170 rounds, but otherwise the gun performed flawlessly.
The targets ranged from 15 to 500 yds, which allowed me to learn the limitations of the gun and my shooting ability. I quickly discovered that I need to practice shooting from cross sticks before heading back out to call coyotes with my buddy later this winter.
Now I need to find some time to load rounds for dmpowder's semi-auto shootout (under the AR forum) and coyote hunting in between bowhunts. I love this time of year!!
